The iPad (2022) was the redesign the entry-level iPad had needed for years, and it still makes sense as a first tablet in 2026. Apple ditched the old home-button body for flat edges, slimmer bezels and a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina screen, moved to USB-C for charging and accessories, and finally shifted the front camera to the long edge so you are looking straight down the lens on a video call rather than off to one side. Touch ID lives in the power button. The A14 Bionic chip is no longer new, but for browsing, streaming, school work, sketching and the odd game it stays comfortably quick, and it is still on Apple's supported list for current iPadOS releases. The trade-offs are real and worth knowing: the 60Hz display is laminated less generously than the Air's, so the glass sits fractionally further from the pixels, and stylus support is limited to the first-generation Apple Pencil or the USB-C Pencil rather than the magnetic second-generation one. As a family or student tablet it is still a sensible, long-lived buy.
