About the Samsung Galaxy S8
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the phone that introduced the curved, almost bezel-free Infinity Display look Samsung has used ever since, and nearly a decade after its April 2017 launch it still looks modern in a way most phones of that era do not. The 5.8-inch screen sits in a body narrower than many of today's compact phones, which makes it one of the easiest large-screen handsets to use one-handed. Samsung also loaded it with hardware that has since disappeared from the range: a headphone jack, microSD expansion, an iris scanner and a dedicated Bixby button. As a purchase today it is strictly a cheap secondhand or backup phone. The 3,000mAh battery was modest even in 2017 and will have lost capacity, the Exynos 8895 shows its age when apps get demanding, and software support ended with Android 9 Pie back in 2019, so there are no security patches. The single 12MP camera is still pleasant in daylight but has none of the computational processing that transformed phone photography afterwards. Buy it for the design and the price, not the performance.

Is the Samsung Galaxy S8 worth buying in 2026?
Only as a very cheap spare or first phone for a child. It stopped receiving Android and security updates on Android 9 Pie, and the 3,000mAh battery will be well down on its original capacity. The design and AMOLED screen are the only reasons it still gets recommended.
Does the Samsung Galaxy S8 have a headphone jack?
Yes, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom edge, and Samsung included AKG-tuned wired earphones in the box at launch. It also has a microSD slot that takes cards up to 256GB alongside the SIM.
Will the Samsung Galaxy S8 still get Android updates?
No. The Galaxy S8 shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat and its final upgrade was Android 9 Pie with One UI, delivered in early 2019. Security patch support has long since ended, so newer banking and work apps may eventually stop supporting it.

It has an IP68 rating covering immersion in fresh water to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. On a phone this old, seals degrade and any screen or battery repair usually breaks the waterproofing, so do not count on it.
