The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the phone that introduced the curved, almost bezel-free Infinity Display look Samsung has used ever since, and nearly a decade after its April 2017 launch it still looks modern in a way most phones of that era do not. The 5.8-inch screen sits in a body narrower than many of today's compact phones, which makes it one of the easiest large-screen handsets to use one-handed. Samsung also loaded it with hardware that has since disappeared from the range: a headphone jack, microSD expansion, an iris scanner and a dedicated Bixby button. As a purchase today it is strictly a cheap secondhand or backup phone. The 3,000mAh battery was modest even in 2017 and will have lost capacity, the Exynos 8895 shows its age when apps get demanding, and software support ended with Android 9 Pie back in 2019, so there are no security patches. The single 12MP camera is still pleasant in daylight but has none of the computational processing that transformed phone photography afterwards. Buy it for the design and the price, not the performance.
