About the Samsung Galaxy S9+
The Galaxy S9+ was the big-screen flagship of 2018 and the first Samsung phone to pair two rear cameras with a variable aperture main sensor that physically switches between f/1.5 and f/2.4. That trick still matters: it is why low-light shots from an S9+ hold up better than the megapixel count suggests, and why bright daylight scenes avoid the blown-out highlights of rivals from the same year. Around it sits the hardware Samsung has since quietly abandoned, including a 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD expansion and front-facing stereo speakers tuned by AKG, alongside IP68 protection and wireless charging. The curved 6.2-inch Quad HD+ screen is still bright and sharp. The reasons for caution are all about age. The Exynos 9810 chip was never the most efficient of its generation, updates stopped at Android 10, and a 2018 battery will have lost real capacity. There is no 5G. It suits someone who values the camera and the headphone jack over having current software.

It depends on what you value. The dual-aperture camera, headphone jack, microSD slot, stereo speakers and IP68 build are all still appealing, but the Galaxy S9+ stopped receiving updates at Android 10, has no 5G, and its 3,500mAh battery will be well down on its original capacity.

Does the Samsung Galaxy S9+ support 5G?
No. The Galaxy S9+ is a 4G LTE handset. Samsung's first 5G phones arrived the following generation, so there is no 5G option for the S9 family.
Will the Samsung Galaxy S9+ still get software updates?
No. Samsung's support ended in 2022, with the final release being One UI 2.5 on Android 10. It will not receive further security patches, which is the main thing to weigh against its otherwise capable hardware.
How good is the Samsung Galaxy S9+ camera?
Still respectable for a phone of its age. The 12MP main camera has a mechanically variable aperture that opens to f/1.5 for low light and closes to f/2.4 in bright conditions, and the second 12MP telephoto lens gives true 2x optical zoom. Both are optically stabilised, and it can shoot 4K at 60fps.
How does the Samsung Galaxy S9+ compare to the Galaxy S10+?
The S10+ is the bigger upgrade than the numbers suggest: a larger 6.4-inch display with a hole-punch camera instead of a top bezel, a third ultra-wide rear lens, a 4,100mAh battery and the newer Exynos 9820 chip. The S9+ keeps the same headphone jack and IP68 rating, so the gap is mostly performance, battery and camera range.
