About the Oppo Reno16 F

The Reno16 F sits below the Reno16 in a larger body with a plastic frame, and the feature that matters most is its 50MP 3.5x telephoto camera with optical stabilisation. That telephoto is the real change from the Reno15 F, which had a 2MP macro camera in its place, and it means you can take properly zoomed portraits and distant shots rather than cropping. The 6.57-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, the 50MP ultrawide selfie camera and the microSD slot carry over, and the phone is now rated IP69K as well as IP68. The catches are specific to the UK. The European model has a 6,500mAh battery rather than the 7,000mAh cell sold elsewhere, and it charges at 45W instead of 80W, so Oppo quotes 84 minutes for a full charge, with no charger in the box. The 8MP ultrawide is the weak camera, and WhistleOut found the Dimensity 7300 Energy fine for everyday use but laggy in demanding games. If you want optical zoom and a big screen without stepping up to the Reno16, this is the model to look at.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Oppo Reno16 F worth buying?
It is if optical zoom matters to you. The 50MP 3.5x telephoto with optical stabilisation did well in most conditions in WhistleOut's testing, and it comes with a 6.57-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, IP69K protection and a microSD slot. It is less convincing on speed and charging: the Dimensity 7300 Energy struggles in demanding games, and the UK model charges at 45W rather than 80W.
Should I buy the Oppo Reno16 F or the Oppo Reno16?
Pick the Reno16 F for a bigger 6.57-inch screen, a larger 6,500mAh battery on UK models and a microSD slot. Pick the Reno16 for a smaller 6.32-inch body with an aluminium frame, the more powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, a 50MP ultrawide instead of the F's 8MP, 4K 60fps video and 80W charging. Both have a 50MP main camera and a 50MP 3.5x telephoto with optical stabilisation, a 50MP ultrawide selfie camera and IP68/IP69K protection. Compare Oppo Reno16 deals.
How does the Oppo Reno16 F compare to the Oppo Reno15 F?
The biggest change is the camera: the Reno15 F's 2MP macro lens is replaced by a 50MP 3.5x telephoto with optical stabilisation. The Reno16 F also moves from the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 to the Dimensity 7300 Energy, adds IP69K, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, and keeps the same 6.57-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen. In the UK both have 6,500mAh batteries, but the Reno15 F charges at 80W against the Reno16 F's 45W. Compare Oppo Reno15 F deals.
How long does the Oppo Reno16 F battery last?
UK models have a 6,500mAh battery; the 7,000mAh version with 80W charging is sold outside Europe. Oppo's own lab figure for the UK model is about two and a half days of typical use, and it quotes 84 minutes for a full charge at 45W. There is no charger in the UK box and no wireless charging.
Is the Oppo Reno16 F camera good?
The 50MP main camera and the 50MP 3.5x telephoto, both with optical stabilisation, are the strong points, and WhistleOut found both reliable in most conditions, though low-light zoom shots can need a steady hand. The 8MP ultrawide is the weak link and its images lack detail. The front camera is a 50MP ultrawide with autofocus and a 100-degree field of view, and video tops out at 4K 30fps.
Does the Oppo Reno16 F have a microSD card slot?
Yes. The Reno16 F takes a microSD card, which the Reno16 does not, so you can add storage to the 256GB UK model. It also supports two nano-SIMs plus eSIM, with two lines active at a time.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
