The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra was Samsung's attempt to out-size Apple, and years on it is still one of the largest mainstream Android tablets you can buy. The 14.6-inch Super AMOLED panel runs at 120Hz and is the reason to want one: it is enormous, deeply contrasty and genuinely good for films, split-screen work and drawing at close to A4 scale. Samsung includes the S Pen in the box rather than charging extra for it, and DeX mode turns the tablet into a windowed desktop when you attach a keyboard, which is the closest Android gets to laptop replacement. The compromises are physical. At 726g and 5.5mm it is wide, slightly bendy-feeling and not something you hold up in bed for long, and the front-facing dual camera sits in a notch that some people never quite stop noticing. Software support is finite too: Samsung committed to four Android upgrades and five years of security patches from its 2022 launch, so the runway is now short. For a big-screen media and note-taking tablet, though, it still delivers.
