About the Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro Max

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is built around one idea: a phone you rarely need to charge. The UK model has a 9,210mAh silicon-carbon battery, far larger than the 6,500mAh cell in the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ it replaces, and reviewers backed up Xiaomi's claims. Trusted Reviews got three days from a charge, and GSMArena's endurance score was more than six hours longer than the Pro+ managed. It still charges at 100W and can top up earbuds or another phone at 27W. The 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED is bright and sharp, and IP66/IP68 sealing with a 3-metre drop certification makes it well suited to outdoor and heavy-handed use. The compromises are elsewhere. The 200MP camera of the previous Pro models has given way to a 50MP main sensor, which reviewers rated well in daylight but which is paired with a weak 8MP ultrawide and no telephoto. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 benchmarks only slightly ahead of the Pro+ in GSMArena's testing, and Trusted Reviews and Tech Advisor both called performance middling. Buy it for endurance and toughness rather than speed or camera range.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max worth buying?
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is worth buying if battery life is your top priority: Tech Advisor and Trusted Reviews both got well over two days from its 9,210mAh battery, and it charges at 100W. Performance is middling for the class and the 8MP ultrawide is weak, so gamers and keen photographers have better options. Its tough build, with IP66/IP68 sealing and a 3-metre drop certification, is the other reason to choose it.
Should I buy the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max or the Redmi Note 17 Pro?
They share the 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, IP66/IP68 sealing, the 8MP ultrawide and near-identical dimensions. The Pro Max adds a bigger 9,210mAh battery with 100W charging against 8,340mAh and 67W, a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chip, a main camera with a larger sensor and brighter f/1.5 lens, 4K video on both cameras and a 32MP selfie camera. In GSMArena's battery test the Pro Max lasted about five hours longer, so it is the one to pick if endurance and video matter.
How does the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max compare to the Redmi Note 15 Pro+?
The Pro Max has a far larger battery at 9,210mAh against 6,500mAh with the same 100W charging, a slightly brighter version of the same 1.5K display, and 4K selfie video. It gives up the Pro+'s 200MP main camera for a 50MP sensor and is about 18g heavier. GSMArena found the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 benchmarks only a little ahead of the Pro+'s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, so performance is broadly unchanged.
How long does the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max battery last?
The UK Redmi Note 17 Pro Max has a 9,210mAh battery (some other regions get 10,000mAh) that Xiaomi rates at up to three days of use, and Trusted Reviews got three days in testing. GSMArena recorded an Active Use Score of 22 and a half hours, tenth-best in its all-time chart, and reached a full charge in 61 minutes with Xiaomi's 100W adapter. Xiaomi UK says no charger is included in the box.
How good is the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max camera?
The 50MP main camera, with a 1/1.95-inch sensor, f/1.5 lens and optical stabilisation, takes detailed, natural-looking daylight photos according to both GSMArena and Trusted Reviews. The 8MP ultrawide is the weak point, with soft detail especially in dim light, and there is no telephoto lens. GSMArena rated the 32MP selfies and the 4K video from both cameras as good for the class.
Is the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max waterproof?
The UK Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is rated IP66 and IP68, and Xiaomi says it passed a TÜV SÜD test of 72 hours in 2 metres of fresh water. That covers rain, spills and accidental dunks, but Xiaomi advises against pool or beach use and its warranty does not cover liquid damage outside its test conditions. It is also SGS certified for 3-metre drops onto granite, and the screen uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
