About the Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro

The Redmi Note 17 Pro swaps camera ambition for stamina, and how you feel about it depends on which of those you use more. The headline change is an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery, far larger than the Redmi Note 15 Pro's, with charging raised to 67W so a full charge takes about as long as before despite the extra capacity. In GSMArena's battery test it lasted around two hours longer than its predecessor, although gaming drained it faster than rivals with similar capacity. The 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen carries over with a small brightness bump to 3,500 nits, and it is sharper than the Full HD panels common at this level. The compromise is the camera: the 200MP main sensor is gone, replaced by a 50MP stabilised camera alongside the same basic 8MP ultrawide, and video now tops out at 1080p rather than 4K. The Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 is aimed at everyday use rather than heavy gaming. Durability is a strength, with IP66/IP68 sealing tested to 2 metres for 72 hours and a 3-metre drop certification. If you want 4K video, the Note 17 Pro Max records it, and the older Note 15 Pro keeps the 200MP camera.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Redmi Note 17 Pro worth buying?
The Redmi Note 17 Pro is worth buying if battery life and durability are your priorities: its 8,340mAh battery, IP66/IP68 sealing and 1.5K AMOLED screen make it a dependable everyday phone, and Xiaomi promises six years of security updates. It is a weaker camera phone than the Redmi Note 15 Pro, with a 50MP main sensor in place of 200MP and no 4K video recording. If photography matters, look at the Note 17 Pro Max or the Note 15 Pro instead.
Should I buy the Redmi Note 17 Pro or the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max?
Both share the 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, IP66/IP68 sealing and an 8MP ultrawide camera, and they weigh within about 2g of each other. The Pro Max adds a bigger 9,210mAh battery with 100W charging against 8,340mAh and 67W, a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chip, a main camera with a larger sensor and brighter f/1.5 lens, a 32MP selfie camera and 4K video from both cameras. Choose the Pro if 1080p video and 67W charging are enough for you, or the Pro Max for the camera and battery upgrades.
How does the Redmi Note 17 Pro compare to the Redmi Note 15 Pro?
The Note 17 Pro has a much larger 8,340mAh battery against 6,580mAh, faster 67W charging in place of 45W, and a slightly brighter version of the same 6.83-inch 1.5K display. It gives up the Note 15 Pro's 200MP main camera for a 50MP sensor, loses 4K video recording, drops from a 20MP to a 16MP selfie camera and is 13g heavier. The chip also changes from the Dimensity 7400 Ultra to a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4.
How long does the Redmi Note 17 Pro battery last?
The Redmi Note 17 Pro has an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery that Xiaomi rates at more than two days of typical use. GSMArena measured an Active Use Score of about 17 and a half hours, roughly two hours more than the Redmi Note 15 Pro, though gaming was its weakest test. It charges at 67W, reaching 50 percent in 34 minutes by Xiaomi's figures, and can reverse charge other devices at 22.5W.
How good is the Redmi Note 17 Pro camera?
The Redmi Note 17 Pro pairs a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation and an 8MP ultrawide, with a 16MP camera on the front. It is a step back from the Redmi Note 15 Pro's 200MP sensor, and both rear and front cameras record video at up to 1080p at 30fps, with no 4K option. Full independent camera testing of the Pro had not been published at the time of writing, but on hardware the Pro Max has the larger main sensor and 4K video.
Is the Redmi Note 17 Pro waterproof?
The UK Redmi Note 17 Pro is rated IP66 and IP68, and Xiaomi says it passed a TÜV SÜD test of 72 hours in 2 metres of fresh water. That covers rain, spills and accidental dunks, but Xiaomi advises against pool or beach use and its warranty does not cover liquid damage outside its test conditions. It is also SGS certified for 3-metre drops onto granite, and the screen uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
