About the Xiaomi Poco F9 Pro

The Poco F9 Pro is the smaller, lighter half of the F9 series, and against its own predecessor it is the bigger upgrade of the two. The F8 Pro's Snapdragon 8 Elite gives way to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, a version of the F9 Ultra's chip that keeps the same CPU speeds but trims the GPU. GSMArena measured only a small CPU deficit against the full chip, with graphics the main compromise, and like the Ultra it gets hot and throttles under sustained heavy load. The main camera jumps from 50MP to 200MP, the 2.5x telephoto can now focus as close as 10cm, and 50W wireless charging arrives, which the F8 Pro lacked. Battery life is a strength: capacity only rises to 6,330mAh, yet GSMArena's endurance score climbed well above the F8 Pro's. The 6.59-inch screen reaches 185Hz in supported games and is brighter than before. The trade-offs are a weak 8MP ultrawide, no 8K video, 7g more weight than the F8 Pro and a four-upgrade OS promise. It suits buyers who want flagship speed without the Ultra's bulk.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Poco F9 Pro worth buying?
Yes, for buyers who want flagship-level speed, long battery life and a capable main camera without the size of the Ultra. Reviewers praised its performance, build quality and display, and GSMArena rated its battery endurance excellent. The compromises are the 8MP ultrawide, heat in demanding games and four major OS upgrades, which trails Samsung and Google.
Should I buy the Poco F9 Pro or the Poco F9 Ultra?
The Ultra uses the full Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the Pro's V Series version runs its CPU at the same speeds but has a cut-down GPU with a third less dedicated graphics memory, so the Ultra has more headroom in demanding games. The Ultra also adds a 6.9-inch screen, an 8,050mAh battery against 6,330mAh, a 5x periscope, a 50MP ultrawide, 8K video, a 1TB option and a Bose subwoofer. The Pro keeps the same 200MP main camera, 185Hz refresh rate and charging speeds in a body 29g lighter, so choose it if size matters more than zoom and maximum battery. Compare Poco F9 Ultra deals.
How does the Poco F9 Pro compare to the Poco F8 Pro?
The F9 Pro moves from the Snapdragon 8 Elite to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, the main camera from 50MP to 200MP, the selfie camera from 20MP to 32MP with 4K video, and the refresh rate from 120Hz to 185Hz. It adds the 50W wireless charging the F8 Pro lacked and grows the battery slightly, from 6,210mAh to 6,330mAh. It is 7g heavier at 206g and drops 8K video recording. Compare Poco F8 Pro deals.
Does the Poco F9 Pro support wireless charging?
Yes. It supports 50W wireless charging with a compatible Xiaomi charger, a feature the F8 Pro did not have, and BGR reached 44% in 30 minutes on one. It can also charge other devices at up to 22.5W wirelessly or 27W over USB-C. Wired charging stays at 100W, but no charger comes in the UK box.
How long does the Poco F9 Pro battery last?
A full day comfortably, and often into a second. GSMArena's Active Use Score of 19 hours 6 minutes was a sizeable jump over the F8 Pro despite only 120mAh more capacity. On 100W wired charging BGR reached 75% in 30 minutes and a full charge in a little over an hour, although GSMArena found it charged more slowly than the F8 Pro.
Is the Poco F9 Pro camera good?
The main and telephoto cameras are. BGR found the 200MP main camera delivers excellent detail and dynamic range in daylight, with acceptable low-light results that turn soft in very dark scenes, and the 2.5x telephoto stays usable up to around 10x. The 8MP ultrawide is the weak point, with soft edges and visible distortion at night. Video tops out at 4K60, a step down from the F8 Pro's 8K30.
How long will the Poco F9 Pro receive software updates?
Poco promises four major Android upgrades and six years of security patches, the same as the F9 Ultra. It launched on Android 16 with HyperOS 3, so those upgrades run to Android 20. Samsung and Google give their current flagships seven years of OS updates.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
