About the Sony Xperia 10 VII

The Xperia 10 VII is the point where Sony finally stopped being stubborn. The long-running 21:9 aspect ratio is gone, replaced by a more conventional 19.5:9 screen, and the display now runs at 120Hz instead of the 60Hz that held back every previous Xperia 10. Both changes make it feel like a current phone rather than a curiosity. What Sony has kept is the part that always won it fans: a genuinely compact 6.1-inch body, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD slot and IP65/IP68 protection, a combination almost nobody else still offers. The camera has been rethought too, with a larger 50MP main sensor and a 13MP ultrawide replacing the old 48MP and 8MP pairing, though there is still no dedicated telephoto. Performance from the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is mid-range rather than fast, and Sony's phones have never been the value pick on paper. The appeal here is specific: it is a small, durable, expandable Android phone with headphone support and a long update commitment, and very little else on sale ticks all of those boxes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Sony Xperia 10 VII worth buying?
It is worth buying if you specifically want a compact phone with a headphone jack, a microSD slot and proper water resistance, because almost nothing else combines all four. If you are shopping purely on performance or camera versatility, mid-range rivals give you more for the money.
Does the Sony Xperia 10 VII have a headphone jack?
Yes. The Xperia 10 VII keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack, which Sony has retained across the whole Xperia 10 line. It also supports front-facing stereo speakers for video and music.
Does the Sony Xperia 10 VII have expandable storage?
Yes. It ships with 128GB of internal storage and takes a microSD card, so you can add plenty of space for music, photos and offline video. That makes it a practical choice if you carry a large local media library.
Is the Sony Xperia 10 VII waterproof?
It carries both IP65 and IP68 ratings, meaning it is dust tight, protected against low-pressure water jets and rated for immersion in fresh water. That is stronger protection than most phones in this price bracket offer.
How long will the Sony Xperia 10 VII receive software updates?
It launched on Android 15 with Sony committing to four major Android version upgrades. That is a year longer than the Xperia 10 VI's three-upgrade commitment and gives the phone a longer usable life.
How does the Sony Xperia 10 VII compare to the Xperia 10 VI?
The two biggest changes are the display and the camera. The 10 VII moves from a 60Hz 21:9 panel to a 120Hz 19.5:9 one, which makes scrolling far smoother and video less letterboxed, and it upgrades to a 50MP main sensor with a 13MP ultrawide in place of the 48MP and 8MP pair. It also steps up from the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
