About the Sony Xperia 1 VIII
The Xperia 1 VIII is Sony's 2026 flagship, announced in May and reaching UK buyers in June, so it is still early days and long-term independent verdicts on things like battery endurance are only starting to appear. On paper the headline change is the camera. Sony has moved to three 48MP sensors, replacing the 12MP continuous-zoom telephoto of the Xperia 1 VII with a 48MP periscope at a fixed 70mm, which should mean far more detail at portrait range even if it gives up the older model's sliding zoom trick. Everything that makes an Xperia an Xperia survives: a 6.5-inch 21:9 LTPO OLED, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a dedicated microSD slot, a side fingerprint reader and Sony's manual camera controls with native Alpha camera support.
