About the Samsung Galaxy S20+

The Galaxy S20+ sits in the sensible middle of Samsung's 2020 line-up, and that positioning has aged better than either of the phones flanking it. It takes the standard S20's dependable 12MP camera system rather than the Ultra's ambitious but troublesome 108MP sensor, then pairs it with a 6.7-inch 120Hz screen and a 4,500mAh battery that gives it noticeably more stamina than the smaller model. At 186g it is a large phone but nowhere near the 220g heft of the Ultra, and it avoids that model's protruding camera housing. The additional time-of-flight depth sensor on the back was always more of a spec-sheet item than a practical one and made little difference to portrait shots. UK units use the Exynos 990, which ran warmer and less efficiently than the Snapdragon version sold in other markets, so battery life is good rather than exceptional. The main reason for caution is age: Samsung's update window for the S20 family has expired, so the phone no longer receives Android upgrades or security patches.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy S20+ worth buying in 2026?
It is a reasonable choice for light use but not as a long-term main phone. The 6.7-inch 120Hz screen, 4,500mAh battery and consistent 12MP cameras all still function well, but Samsung has ended security updates for the S20 range, which is a genuine concern for banking and other sensitive apps.
How long does the Samsung Galaxy S20+ get software updates?
Samsung provided three Android version upgrades and four years of security updates, taking the S20+ as far as Android 13 with One UI 5. That period has now ended, so there are no further Android versions or security patches for the device.
Is the Samsung Galaxy S20+ camera good?
It is reliable rather than class-leading. The 12MP main and 12MP ultrawide sensors produce natural, well-balanced photos in good light, and it avoids the autofocus problems that affected the S20 Ultra at launch. The 64MP telephoto delivers 3x hybrid zoom rather than true optical zoom, so quality falls away as you zoom further.
Does the Samsung Galaxy S20+ have a headphone jack and microSD slot?
There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, so USB-C or Bluetooth headphones are required. It does retain a microSD slot supporting cards up to 1TB, alongside internal storage options of 128GB, 256GB or 512GB depending on the model.
Should I get the Samsung Galaxy S20+ or the Galaxy S20 Ultra?
The S20+ is the more balanced phone. The Ultra adds a 108MP main camera, a 48MP periscope with 100x zoom, a 5,000mAh battery and 45W charging, but it weighs 220g against the S20+ 186g and its camera was inconsistent at launch. Choose the Ultra only if long-range zoom is a priority for you.
Does the Samsung Galaxy S20+ have wireless charging and water resistance?
Yes. It supports 15W wireless charging plus reverse wireless charging for accessories such as earbuds and watches, and carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. Wired charging tops out at 25W.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
