About the Samsung Galaxy A34

The Galaxy A34 is the phone Samsung built for people who want the familiar One UI experience and Samsung's build standards without stepping up to the S series. Three years after launch its strongest argument is longevity rather than raw power: Samsung committed to four Android upgrades and five years of security patches, so a phone that shipped on Android 13 is still receiving current One UI software. That is unusually generous for a mid-range handset and it changes the maths on buying one today. Day to day it feels solid rather than fast. The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is comfortable with messaging, streaming and light gaming but will not keep pace with enthusiast phones, and the plastic back gives away its position in the range. What it does have is a genuinely good 6.6-inch Super AMOLED at 120Hz, IP67 water resistance that many rivals skip, a microSD slot and a 5,000mAh battery that reliably lasts a day. Charging is a modest 25W.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A34 worth buying?
Yes, if what you want is a dependable Samsung phone with a long software runway rather than headline performance. Its four-generation Android update commitment and five years of security patches, IP67 rating and Super AMOLED screen are the draws; the modest 25W charging and mid-tier chipset are the trade-offs.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A34 waterproof?
It carries an IP67 rating, meaning it is dust-tight and can survive immersion in up to one metre of fresh water for 30 minutes. That is proper water resistance rather than splash protection, though it is not a licence to swim with it.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A34 have expandable storage?
Yes. The Galaxy A34 supports microSDXC cards up to 1TB alongside its 128GB or 256GB of built-in storage. Samsung dropped microSD from its flagship S series years ago, so this is a meaningful advantage of the A range.
How long will the Samsung Galaxy A34 receive updates?
Samsung promised four major Android upgrades and five years of security updates from its 2023 launch, taking security support through to 2028. It shipped on Android 13 with One UI 5.1 and has since been updated well beyond that.
How good is the Samsung Galaxy A34 camera?
The 48MP main camera has optical image stabilisation and produces good daylight photos with Samsung's characteristic punchy colour. The 8MP ultrawide is a clear step down and the 5MP macro is a token addition, while the 13MP selfie camera is fine rather than special.
How long does the Samsung Galaxy A34 battery last?
The 5,000mAh battery reliably covers a full day of mixed use and often more with lighter use, helped by the efficient 6nm Dimensity 1080. Charging is capped at 25W, so a full refill takes noticeably longer than on rival mid-rangers with 67W or faster charging.
Should I get the Galaxy A34 or the Galaxy A54?
The A54 has the better camera hardware, with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide and a 32MP selfie camera against the A34's 48MP, 8MP and 13MP, plus a glass back and the Exynos 1380. The A34 offers a larger 6.6-inch screen against the A54's 6.4 inches and is slightly lighter. Both share IP67, a 5,000mAh battery, 25W charging and the same update policy.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
