The Nord 2 5G was the point at which OnePlus's mid-range line stopped feeling like a compromise. Switching from Qualcomm to MediaTek's Dimensity 1200 gave it genuine flagship-adjacent speed, and the 50MP main camera borrowed from the OnePlus 9 Pro was a far bigger jump than the spec sheet suggests, adding optical stabilisation and much better low-light results than any previous Nord. The 6.43-inch AMOLED panel is compact by modern standards and still looks excellent, and 65W Warp Charge refills the 4,500mAh battery in around half an hour, which remains a genuinely useful convenience. OnePlus also kept the alert slider, a small thing owners tend to miss on other brands. The concessions are the usual mid-range ones: no headphone jack, no microSD, no official IP rating, and an ultrawide and 2MP auxiliary camera that are clearly there to support the main sensor rather than match it. Five years on it still feels quick day to day, but it launched on Android 11 and no longer receives updates, which is the main reason to weigh it against something newer.
