About the Motorola Moto G73

The Moto G73 was Motorola's sensible mid-range option in early 2023, and it still makes a reasonable case for itself as a low-cost 5G phone in 2026 - with caveats. Motorola put the money where budget buyers notice it: a 120Hz screen that makes scrolling feel far smoother than the price suggests, proper stereo speakers rather than the single tinny earpiece most cheap phones settle for, and a 5,000mAh battery that comfortably clears a day. The MediaTek Dimensity 930 is not fast by today's standards but handles messaging, streaming and light games without drama. The bigger issue now is age. Motorola committed to one Android upgrade and three years of security patches from January 2023, so the G73 reached the end of its official update window in early 2026. It also uses an IPS LCD rather than OLED, so blacks look grey next to newer rivals, and there is no real water resistance beyond a splash-repellent coating. Worth considering if you want a cheap, no-fuss 5G handset with a headphone jack and microSD slot, but check newer Moto G models before committing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Motorola Moto G73 worth buying?
It is worth considering only as a budget stopgap. The 120Hz display, stereo speakers, 5,000mAh battery, headphone jack and microSD slot are all genuinely useful, but the phone left its official security update window in January 2026 after receiving just one Android upgrade, to Android 14. If long-term software support matters to you, a newer Moto G is the safer buy.
Does the Motorola Moto G73 have a headphone jack and microSD slot?
Yes to both. The Moto G73 keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack, which Motorola has since dropped from its newer G-series phones, and it takes a microSD card for up to 1TB of extra storage. That combination is increasingly rare and is one of the stronger reasons to pick this model over a newer one.
How long will the Motorola Moto G73 receive updates?
Motorola promised one major Android version upgrade and three years of security patches from its January 2023 launch. The phone shipped with Android 13 and received Android 14 as its final OS update in April 2024, with the security update window closing in January 2026.
Is the Motorola Moto G73 camera good?
It is adequate rather than impressive. The 50MP f/1.8 main camera takes clean, well-exposed shots in daylight but loses detail quickly once the light drops, and the 8MP secondary lens is noticeably softer. Video tops out at 1080p at 60fps, so there is no 4K recording.
Is the Motorola Moto G73 waterproof?
No. The Moto G73 has only a water-repellent coating designed to survive splashes and light rain, not a full IP68 rating. Do not submerge it. Newer Moto G models such as the G75 and G86 offer proper IP68 dust and water resistance instead.
How does the Motorola Moto G73 compare to the Moto G75?
The Moto G75 is the meaningful upgrade: it swaps the Dimensity 930 for a faster Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, adds full IP68 and MIL-STD-810H durability, includes 15W wireless charging and moves to a larger 6.78-inch screen. The trade-off is weight, at 205g versus 181g, and the loss of the headphone jack.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
