Motorola Moto G17 Deals - October 2026

1 refurbished deal available - SIM-free from £110.03.

About the Motorola Moto G17

The Moto G17 is Motorola's entry-level 4G phone for 2026, and it is best understood as a light update of the Moto G15. The chip, battery, charging speed and 6.72-inch Full HD+ screen are all carried over, and the changes are a tougher IP64 rating, a 32MP selfie camera in place of an 8MP one and newer Bluetooth. The practical extras are still here: a 3.5mm headphone jack, a dedicated microSD slot, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and a 5,200mAh battery that ran for just under 22 hours in Expert Reviews' battery test. The weaknesses are hard to ignore. The screen is fixed at 60Hz, and Expert Reviews found the MediaTek Helio G81 Extreme with 4GB of RAM frustratingly slow, recording no Geekbench gain over the 2023 Moto G13. Its cameras were weak in that testing too, especially the ultrawide. Motorola is not promising any Android upgrades, so it is expected to stay on Android 15, and its UK security commitment runs to February 2028. It suits very light use; anyone who wants 5G or a smoother screen should look at the Moto G37.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Motorola Moto G17 worth buying?
Only for light use such as calls, messaging and streaming. It has a big battery, a Full HD+ screen, a headphone jack and microSD expansion, but Expert Reviews found it slow, gave it two stars and pointed out that Motorola promises no Android upgrades. If you can stretch a little, the Moto G37 adds 5G and a 120Hz screen.
Does the Motorola Moto G17 have 5G?
No. The Moto G17 is a 4G-only phone because the MediaTek Helio G81 Extreme has no 5G modem. It works on 4G across UK networks, but if you want 5G the Moto G37 is the nearest Motorola that has it.
How long will the Motorola Moto G17 get software updates?
Motorola is not promising any Android version upgrades, so the Moto G17 is expected to stay on Android 15, which it launched with. Motorola's UK product page commits to security updates for two years, until February 2028.
How good is the Motorola Moto G17 camera?
It has a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 main camera, a 5MP ultrawide and a 32MP selfie camera, all recording video at up to 1080p 30fps. Expert Reviews found the main camera's colours punchy but its detail weak, the ultrawide very poor and video unstabilised, while the selfie camera produced acceptable skin tones. Expect it to cope with social media snaps in good light and little more.
How long does the Motorola Moto G17 battery last?
The 5,200mAh battery ran for 21 hours 59 minutes in Expert Reviews' battery test. Charging is rated at 18W, and in the same review it reached 50% in about 44 minutes and a full charge in 1 hour 38 minutes. There is no wireless charging.
Should I buy the Motorola Moto G17 or the Moto G37?
The Moto G37 adds 5G, a 120Hz screen, MediaTek's Dimensity 6300 chip, Android 16 out of the box and MIL-STD-810H testing, and both phones are IP64 with 5,200mAh batteries. The G17 keeps a sharper Full HD+ panel against the G37's HD+, adds a 5MP ultrawide the G37 lacks and has a 32MP selfie camera to the G37's 8MP. Compare Motorola Moto G37 deals.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
