About the Huawei P40 Pro
The Huawei P40 Pro was the last of Huawei's great camera phones before the company's UK presence faded, and as a piece of imaging hardware it still holds up. The 50MP main sensor is unusually large for its era and pulls in enough light that night shots need no special mode to look clean, while the 5x periscope telephoto reaches further than almost anything else from 2020. The 6.58-inch 90Hz OLED curves on all four edges, which looks striking but does invite accidental touches. Build quality is genuinely flagship: IP68, a 4,200mAh battery, 40W wired charging and 27W wireless. The catch is unavoidable and it is a big one. Because of US sanctions, the P40 Pro shipped without Google Mobile Services, so there is no Play Store, no Gmail app and no Google Maps out of the box, only Huawei's AppGallery. Many mainstream UK apps, particularly banking apps, simply will not install. It is a superb camera in a phone that most people should no longer treat as their only device.

Is the Huawei P40 Pro worth buying in 2026?
Only for a specific kind of buyer. The camera hardware, screen and build still compare well with far newer mid-range phones, but the lack of Google Mobile Services means no Play Store and no easy access to many UK banking, streaming and transport apps. It also stopped receiving Android version upgrades years ago, so it is best treated as a secondary camera device rather than a main phone.
Does the Huawei P40 Pro have Google Play Store?
No. Because of US trade restrictions, the Huawei P40 Pro ships with Huawei Mobile Services and the AppGallery instead of Google Mobile Services. There is no Play Store, Gmail, YouTube or Google Maps app pre-installed, and several popular UK apps, especially banking ones, are unavailable or unreliable.
How good is the Huawei P40 Pro camera?
It remains one of the strongest camera systems of its generation. A 50MP main sensor with a large 1/1.28-inch surface handles low light exceptionally well, and the 12MP periscope lens gives a true 5x optical reach that most phones of the era could not match. It is backed by a 40MP ultrawide and a time-of-flight depth sensor, plus a 32MP autofocus front camera.

Yes to both. The P40 Pro supports 27W wireless charging and 40W wired charging on its 4,200mAh battery, and it carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Reverse wireless charging is also included for topping up earbuds or a watch.
How does the Huawei P40 Pro compare to the Huawei P40?
The Pro is the bigger, more capable phone in every respect. It steps up to a 6.58-inch 90Hz display from the P40's flat 6.1-inch 60Hz panel, adds a 5x periscope telephoto and 40MP ultrawide in place of the P40's 3x telephoto and 16MP ultrawide, and gains IP68 rating plus wireless charging that the standard P40 lacks entirely.
Does the Huawei P40 Pro take a microSD card?
No. It uses Huawei's proprietary Nano Memory (NM) card format instead, supporting cards up to 256GB. NM cards are harder to find and generally more expensive than standard microSD, so it is worth choosing a higher internal storage tier of 256GB or 512GB where possible.
