About the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is the 6.9-inch version of Apple's 2026 flagship, announced on 9 September and on sale in the UK from 18 September 2026 at £1,299 for 256GB. It matches the smaller iPhone 18 Pro on everything that matters: the 2-nanometre A20 Pro chip, the 48MP main camera with a mechanical variable aperture from f/1.48 to f/4.0, the 48MP 4x telephoto and 48MP ultrawide, the 18MP Center Stage front camera, the smaller Dynamic Island and the new 2TB storage tier. What the extra £100 and 38 grams buy is the screen and the battery. Apple rates it at up to 43 hours of video playback and 29 hours of typical use, the longest figures it has ever published for an iPhone, and a 60W adapter takes it to 50% in around 15 minutes. The aluminium unibody is unchanged at 8.75mm, Face ID stays, and the colours are black, silver, glacier and burgundy.

Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max Specifications
Spec Scores
£1000-£1499 Phones · 34 phones
- Apple A20 Pro (2 nm)
- Hexa-core (2 super + 4 efficiency)
- 12GB RAM
Based on calibrated CPU benchmark rankings (60%) and GFXBench GPU scores (40%). Apple chipsets included via editorial calibration since AnTuTu under-represents Apple's architecture.
- 6.9 inches
- 1320 x 2868 pixels
- OLED, 120Hz, 3000 nits peak
Based on panel type (LTPO is the modern flagship gold standard), resolution, refresh rate, peak brightness, screen size, and HDR10+ / Dolby Vision support. Marketing peak-brightness claims are capped at 3500 nits to prevent inflation.
- Single camera setup
- 48 MP main camera
- 4K video recording
Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.
- 18 MP front camera
- 4K selfie video
Based on the image-processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra and Honor Magic lead on computational processing), sensor resolution in tiers rather than raw megapixels, autofocus, aperture and max selfie-video resolution. Calibrated against DXOMARK's selfie protocol.
