You get the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, the same cameras and the same S Pen in the box as the larger models, so nothing about the core experience feels cut back. What you give up is the screen technology: this is an 11-inch LCD rather than the AMOLED panel on the S8+, so blacks look grey rather than inky in a dark room. In exchange it runs at a high 120Hz refresh rate, it is lighter, and at around 500g it is far easier to hold one-handed on a train or in bed. The 8,000mAh battery is smaller than the S8+ cell but sized appropriately for the smaller display. Samsung DeX is present, though 11 inches is tight for serious split-screen work. Several years on, the long update commitment means it is still receiving current Android software, which is what keeps it worth considering rather than the raw specification sheet.
