About the Xiaomi Poco X5

The Poco X5 was Xiaomi's 2023 attempt to put a proper AMOLED screen in front of budget buyers, and that screen is still the reason to look at it. The 6.67-inch panel runs at 120Hz and pushes up to 1,200 nits in bright conditions, which is the kind of specification that used to be reserved for far more expensive phones and makes everyday scrolling and outdoor use feel far better than its budget billing suggests. The Snapdragon 695 behind it is the compromise: it is efficient and handles messaging, streaming and social apps without complaint, but it is not a gaming chip and it caps video recording at 1080p. Battery life is the other strong point, with 5,000mAh and a frugal chipset combining for comfortable all-day endurance, backed by 33W charging. Photography is the weakest area, with a 48MP main camera that is fine in daylight and unremarkable after dark. As an older release it is now firmly a value pick rather than a current model, and its Android update runway has essentially run out.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Poco X5 worth buying?
The Poco X5 is worth buying if you want a bright 120Hz AMOLED screen and dependable battery life more than you want camera quality or gaming performance. The Snapdragon 695 is comfortable with everyday apps but was never fast, and as a 2023 model it is at the end of its software life. Buyers who want more speed and a better camera should look at the Poco X5 Pro.
Does the Poco X5 have 5G and a headphone jack?
Yes to both. The Poco X5 supports 5G through its Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, and it keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack alongside stereo speakers, an infrared blaster and NFC for contactless payments.
Can you add a microSD card to the Poco X5?
Yes, the Poco X5 accepts a microSDXC card, but it uses a hybrid slot shared with the second SIM. You can either run two SIMs or one SIM plus a memory card, not both at once.
Is the Poco X5 camera good?
The Poco X5 has a 48MP main camera with an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro sensor. It takes acceptable daylight photos, but there is no optical stabilisation, low-light results are soft, and video is limited to 1080p at 30fps.
How long does the Poco X5 battery last?
The Poco X5 combines a 5,000mAh battery with the power-efficient Snapdragon 695, which is a pairing that comfortably covers a full day of mixed use. Charging is a respectable 33W wired, though there is no wireless charging.
What is the difference between the Poco X5 and the Poco X5 Pro?
The Poco X5 Pro uses the noticeably faster Snapdragon 778G, a 108MP main camera, 4K video recording and much quicker 67W charging, and it is lighter at 181g. The standard Poco X5 counters with a brighter 1,200-nit panel and microSD expansion, which the Pro drops entirely. Compare Poco X5 Pro deals.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
