About the Xiaomi Poco C65

The Poco C65 sits at the very bottom of Xiaomi's range, and it is honest about what that means. You get a large 6.74-inch screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, which is the single thing that makes day-to-day scrolling feel less sluggish than the price suggests, but it is an IPS panel at 720p so text and photos never look sharp. The Helio G85 chip is comfortable with messaging, streaming and light games, and it starts to stumble the moment you ask for heavy multitasking. Where the C65 genuinely earns its keep is endurance and practicality: a 5,000mAh battery that easily clears a day, a proper microSD slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a side fingerprint reader. The 50MP main camera takes acceptable daylight shots and struggles after dark. It shipped on Android 13 with MIUI 14 for POCO, and Xiaomi has never published a long update commitment for the C series, so treat it as a phone for the next couple of years rather than the next five. As a first smartphone, a work handset or a spare, it does the job without pretending to be more.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Poco C65 worth buying?
The Poco C65 is worth buying if your priorities are battery life and basic reliability rather than speed or camera quality. The 5,000mAh battery, microSD slot and headphone jack cover the practical basics well. If you play demanding games or take a lot of low-light photos, look further up the range.
Does the Poco C65 have 5G?
No. The Poco C65 is a 4G LTE handset only, with no 5G support. Any UK network will work with it, but you will be limited to 4G speeds, which is generally more than enough for streaming and browsing.
Does the Poco C65 have a headphone jack and microSD card slot?
Yes to both. The Poco C65 keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack and has a dedicated microSD slot supporting cards up to 1TB, so you can expand the 128GB or 256GB of built-in storage. It also has NFC for contactless payments, which is unusual at this level.
How good is the Poco C65 camera?
The 50MP main camera is fine in good daylight and produces usable social-media shots, but detail falls away quickly indoors and at night. The second rear sensor is a 2MP macro lens with limited value, and the 8MP front camera is basic. Do not buy this phone primarily for photography.
How long does the Poco C65 battery last?
The 5,000mAh battery paired with a low-resolution 720p screen and the efficient Helio G85 chip comfortably gets through a full day, and light users can stretch it to two. Charging is capped at 18W, so a full top-up takes well over an hour.
Should I get the Poco C65 or the Poco C75?
The Poco C75 is the newer option with a larger 6.88-inch 120Hz screen, a bigger 5,160mAh battery and a sharper 13MP selfie camera, though it is heavier at 204g versus 192g. The C65 has the newer-generation Helio G85 versus the C75's Helio G81, so real-world speed is broadly similar. Choose on screen size and battery rather than performance.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
