About the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro

The TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro is built around one idea that no mainstream rival copies: a matte, anti-glare screen designed to be easy on the eyes for long reading sessions. TCL's NxtPaper 4.0 display cuts blue light and removes the flicker that gives some people headaches on conventional OLED panels, and a dedicated hardware key on the side flips the phone between full colour, a softer Color Paper mode and a monochrome Max Ink mode that looks and behaves much like an e-reader. That last mode is the interesting one, because it strips the phone back to text and stretches the 5,200mAh battery a very long way. The rest of the package is sensible mid-range fare: a Dimensity 7300 chipset, a 50MP main camera with optical stabilisation, IP68 protection and stylus support. It is not a phone for gaming or for chasing the best low-light photos. It is for people who read, take notes and want to spend less time staring at a glossy, over-bright panel.

Frequently asked questions

Is a contract cheaper than buying the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro Blue outright with a SIM-only plan?
Yes — a contract works out £100.19 cheaper over 24 months. The cheapest contract totals £411.80 (24 months). Buying SIM-free at £319.99 plus a typical 15GB SIM-only plan (~£8.00/mo) totals £511.99.
Can I get the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro Blue on contract with no upfront cost?
Yes. The cheapest no-upfront-cost contract for the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro Blue is £21.00/month over 24 months with £0 upfront. Total cost: £504.00.
Is the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro worth buying?
It is worth buying if the matte, eye-friendly display genuinely appeals to you, because that is what you are paying for. The Dimensity 7300 chipset, 50MP stabilised main camera, IP68 rating and 5,200mAh battery make it a competent mid-ranger regardless. If you want the sharpest, most vivid screen or top-tier camera performance, a conventional OLED phone will suit you better.
What does NxtPaper actually do on the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro?
NxtPaper 4.0 is a matte, anti-glare display treatment that reduces blue light output and eliminates flicker, aiming to reduce eye strain during long reading. A physical NxtPaper key on the side of the phone switches between standard colour, a muted Color Paper mode and a black-and-white Max Ink mode. Max Ink strips the interface back to text and dramatically extends battery life.
Is the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro camera good?
The rear camera is led by a 50MP sensor with optical image stabilisation, which helps keep handheld and low-light shots sharp. It is a solid mid-range camera for daylight photos and social sharing, supported by TCL's AI editing tools including object erase and unblur. Do not expect it to match flagship phones for night photography or zoom.
Is the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro waterproof?
It has an IP68 rating, so it is dust-tight and can withstand temporary immersion in fresh water. That covers rain and accidental spills. It is not intended for swimming, salt water or high-pressure water.
Does the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro support a stylus?
Yes. TCL pairs it with the T-Pen Magic stylus, which has 5ms latency and is designed for handwriting and sketching on the matte display. The paper-like surface gives noticeably more friction than glossy glass, which makes writing feel closer to pen on paper.
How does the TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro compare to the TCL 60 SE NxtPaper?
The 70 Pro is a clear step up: a sharper 6.9-inch Full HD+ NxtPaper 4.0 panel instead of a 6.7-inch HD+ one, a faster 4nm Dimensity 7300 chipset in place of the Dimensity 6300, and optical stabilisation on the main camera. Both use a 5,200mAh battery. The 60 SE NxtPaper remains the lighter, simpler option if you only want the paper-like screen.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
