The original Galaxy Z Flip is the phone that made folding clamshells look practical rather than experimental. It was Samsung's first handset with bendable glass instead of plastic, and folding a 6.7-inch screen down to something that fits a jacket pocket is still the whole appeal six years later. Day to day it behaves like a normal Android phone once opened, with a bright Dynamic AMOLED panel and a hinge that holds any angle, which makes hands-free video calls and tripod-free photos genuinely useful. The compromises are real though. Battery life from the 3,300mAh dual cell was never strong and will be weaker still on a used unit, charging tops out at 15W, the 1.1-inch cover display shows little more than the time and notification icons, and there is no water resistance at all. The dual 12MP camera is competent rather than special, and updates finished at Android 13. Buy it for the form factor and the novelty, not as a long-term daily driver.
