The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to be the first Ultra in years to change shape, trading Samsung's vertical lens column for a raised camera plateau - and, on the current reporting, dropping one of its four rear cameras rather than adding anything. Nothing about it is announced. The reporting points to an Unpacked event between mid-January and late February 2027, UK shops roughly a fortnight later, a new display panel, a noticeably bigger battery, and a price pushed up by chip and memory costs rather than by anything Samsung is choosing to do.
Last updated 20 September 2026. Samsung has confirmed nothing about the Galaxy S27 Ultra - not the name, not the date, not a single specification and not one price. Everything below comes from leaked CAD renders, certification filings, Korean supply-chain reporting and tipsters, all attributed in Sources. Every pound figure on this page is our own arithmetic from the Galaxy S26 Ultra's UK price, and is labelled as such. Where two reports disagree we print both.
When is the Galaxy S27 Ultra out in the UK?
There is no date, and there is no leaked date either. What exists is one year of precedent and two journalists' estimates.
The precedent is the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung announced it at Unpacked on 25 February 2026, opened UK pre-orders the same day, ran its pre-order offers until 10 March and put it on general sale on 11 March 2026. That timing was itself a break with habit: the S25 generation launched in January, and Samsung shifted the S26 back to the week before Mobile World Congress.
SamMobile expects the S27 range in "January or February 2027". Android Headlines commits further, guessing the week of 22 February 2027 on the reasoning that Samsung will keep its new pre-MWC slot. Neither is a leak. Both are informed guesses about a company that has already moved this window once.
| Milestone | Expected | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S27 Ultra unveiled at Unpacked | Between mid-January and late February 2027 | Low. SamMobile says January or February. Android Headlines narrows it to the week of 22 February. Samsung has announced nothing |
| UK pre-orders open | The day of the keynote | Medium. Samsung opened UK Galaxy S26 Ultra pre-orders on 25 February 2026, within hours of the announcement |
| UK general sale | About two weeks after Unpacked | Medium. S26 Ultra pre-order offers ran to 10 March 2026, with general sale from 11 March |
| EE, Vodafone, Three and O2 contracts listed | The day of the keynote | Medium. All four networks and the main retailers listed S26 Ultra tariffs on announcement day |
| First real UK discounting | Two to three weeks after general sale | Medium. This is how every Ultra has behaved, but it is a pattern, not a promise |
Read that as a range, not a date. If the late-February guess is right, a UK buyer is looking at the first half of March 2027. If Samsung reverts to its old January slot, everything moves forward by roughly six weeks. Neither is worth planning a purchase around until Samsung sends out an Unpacked invitation.
How much will the Galaxy S27 Ultra cost in the UK?
No UK price has leaked. Not a figure, not a range, not a retailer slip. What we can do instead is start from what the S26 Ultra actually costs here and apply the rises that have been reported for the United States.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra launched in the UK in March 2026 at £1,279 for the 256GB model, with Samsung throwing in a free upgrade to 512GB for pre-order customers. That £1,279 has not moved: in our own comparison today, Carphone Warehouse, Mobiles.co.uk, Fonehouse and Metrofone all still list the 256GB S26 Ultra SIM-free at exactly £1,279, six months after launch.
Three cost pressures point the same way for its successor. Qualcomm wrote to customers in July 2026 to say it would raise chip prices by a double-digit percentage on products shipped after 1 September 2026, which Bloomberg reported and which lands directly on the S27 Ultra's silicon. Samsung Foundry raised its own advanced-node contract prices by up to 15% from September 2026, per Reuters. And memory has not come back down - Android Headlines describes a RAM shortage that analysts do not expect to clear for years, and notes that Samsung has already put $100 on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Z Flip 8, and Google $100 on the Pixel 11 range.
On the American side, Android Headlines reports the S27 Ultra is rumoured at $1,399, a $100 rise on the S26 Ultra's $1,299, and says $1,499 is "possibly" in play. Converting those two scenarios into the same percentage rise on our £1,279 gives the right-hand column below. It is our arithmetic, not a leak. Samsung does not set UK prices by converting dollars, and it has held a UK price flat through a US rise before.
| Scenario | Reported US price | Implied UK price - our arithmetic, not a leak |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 256GB (confirmed, on sale now) | $1,299 | £1,279 |
| Galaxy S27 Ultra at the widely reported $100 rise | $1,399 | Roughly £1,375 to £1,380 |
| Galaxy S27 Ultra at the higher figure Android Headlines floats | $1,499 | Roughly £1,475 to £1,480 |
Two things matter more than the numbers themselves. First, Samsung's habit at this end of the range is to hold the headline price and sweeten the deal - the S26 Ultra's £1,279 bought 512GB at pre-order, not 256GB, and a repeat of that is more likely than a lower sticker. Second, none of the American reporting is confirmed either, so the column above is an inference built on an inference. Treat it as a planning figure and nothing more.
What is expected to change on the Galaxy S27 Ultra
The back of the phone. Android Headlines published CAD-based renders created by OnLeaks on 25 August 2026, and they are the single most substantial S27 Ultra leak so far. They show Samsung abandoning the vertical lens column it has used for years in favour of a raised horizontal camera plateau running across the top of the back, which Android Headlines likens to what Apple did on the iPhone 17 Pro and notes it had leaked a year earlier for the cancelled Galaxy S26 Edge. Ice Universe independently posted case renders on 2 September 2026 showing the same housing. OnLeaks puts the body at roughly 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97mm, which is a hair larger than the S26 Ultra's 163.6 x 78.1 x 7.9mm, and measures 12.53mm at the camera bump. Android Headlines' own verdict on that is worth repeating: many people expected the plateau to cure the table wobble, and it may not.
Four rear cameras becoming three. This is the change most likely to divide buyers, and the reporting on it firmed up sharply in mid-September. The S26 Ultra carries a 200MP main, a 50MP ultrawide, a 10MP 3x telephoto and a 50MP 5x periscope. ETNews said so first, in a 31 July 2026 report headlined, in translation, "Galaxy S27 series, all models adopt 3 rear cameras". On 3 August GSMArena reported the removal directly, citing two separate sources - Ice Universe and ETNews. Android Headlines counted three lenses on the CAD renders. And on 16 September Roland Quandt, posting on Bluesky, described the same three-camera line-up. Be precise about what is and is not settled, though. Nobody has quoted Samsung, and when Ice Universe returned to the subject in September he addressed the 5x and left the 3x alone, which is why GSMArena's wording is that the 3x is "likely going away" rather than gone. If it holds, you lose a dedicated 3x - the focal length most people actually use for portraits - and gain nothing at 5x.
And on current reporting, the 5x does not improve either. On 14 September 2026 Ice Universe dismissed a rumour that Samsung would move to a larger 4x sensor as "100% false", saying it will keep the S26 Ultra's 5x unit - a 1/2.52in Sony IMX854. Two days later Roland Quandt confirmed a 50MP 5x telephoto with a Sony sensor and a 50MP ultrawide matching the S26 Ultra. Android Headlines' read of that is blunt: it would be the second year running that Samsung has not upgraded a camera on an Ultra. On the main sensor it expects an ISOCELL HIP6 1/1.3in unit that will "likely produce similar results" to the current one. A new housing is not a new camera.
The two improvements reported so far are the selfie camera and the processing. Roland Quandt's 16 September post adds a 16MP front camera with autofocus, against the S26 Ultra's fixed-focus 12MP. Separately, Notebookcheck reported on 16 September 2026, citing the tipster WalleGalaxy, that Samsung is retuning the image signal processing for warmer, more natural-looking photos, and adding Log capture and the APV codec while keeping 4K120 and 8K30 video. Both are single-tipster claims about software and one sensor, so hold them loosely - but if the hardware really is standing still, processing is where any real-world gain would have to come from.
A bigger battery, and the clearest number on this page. The Dutch site Galaxy Club reported a rated capacity of 5,534mAh on 27 July 2026, and Chinese 3C certification independently confirmed that same 5,534mAh figure, reported by GSMArena on 18 September 2026. Against the S26 Ultra's 5,000mAh that is a real increase, attributed to Samsung extending across the S range the silicon-carbon cells it first shipped in the 2026 foldables. One thing to clear up, because both numbers are circulating: 5,700mAh and 5,800mAh are not rival measurements. They are two estimates of the marketing "typical" rating of the same 5,534mAh cell, and Galaxy Club's own wording was that it is probably 5,700, or 5,800 with a bit of luck. Use 5,700 as the working figure. Android Headlines also argues the plateau helps here, freeing interior space for a bigger cell and a vapour chamber, and finally making room for proper magnetic charging.
A new display panel, and a deliberate decision not to chase a number. This is the best-corroborated change after the camera housing. ETNews reported on 14 September 2026, via GSMArena and Notebookcheck, that the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra will move to Samsung Display's new M16 LTPO OLED generation - the same material family used in the iPhone 18 Pro - while the standard S27 and S27+ stay on the older M14. Notebookcheck puts the Ultra's panel at 6.89in, so essentially unchanged in size. Android Headlines added the interesting part on the same day, citing fireuniverse on X: the S27 Ultra will reportedly not run that panel at the 10,000 nits of local peak brightness or the 165Hz it can technically reach, because the optical layers needed for those headline figures make it near impossible to build Privacy Display into the panel itself. Samsung is said to be taking the privacy layer instead. Expect 120Hz to stay and peak brightness to land nearer the S26 Ultra's 2,600 nits than any 10,000-nit headline. M16 is also claimed to cut power draw by up to 30% against M14 and to use 3,300Hz PWM dimming, which matters if screen flicker bothers you.
Privacy Display itself is not new to the Ultra. ETNews reported on 8 September 2026 that Samsung Display's Flex Magic Pixel panels, which narrow the viewing angle so the person beside you cannot read your screen, will be used on both the S27 Pro and the S27 Ultra. That is a story about the Pro inheriting it: the feature debuted on the S26 Ultra in 2026. What may be new for the Ultra is how it is implemented, at panel level rather than as an added layer.
Charging: no change, whatever the headlines say. A China Compulsory Certificate filing reported by SamMobile on 6 September 2026 lists the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra at 60W wired (20V, 3A). For the Pro that is news. For the Ultra it is not, and Samsung itself is the best source on that: its own UK support pages describe Super Fast Charging 3.0 raising power "from 45 W to 60 W" as the Galaxy S26 Ultra's improvement, charging to about 75% in 30 minutes. SamMobile's report agrees that the S27 figure "matches the charging speeds of the Galaxy S26 Ultra", GSMArena's specification sheet for the S26 Ultra reads 60W, PD3.0, and when GSMArena covered the 3C certification on 18 September 2026 it said the same - 60W, "just like this year's Galaxy S26 Ultra". If you are upgrading from an S26 Ultra, expect the same charge time.
The chip - and this one gets answered within days of us publishing. The model number is the only part everybody agrees on: SM8975. The retail name is not settled at all. Digital Chat Station, via SamMobile on 25 August 2026, called it the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on TSMC's second-generation 2nm N2P process with an Adreno 850 GPU and a CPU topping out at 5.01GHz. GSMArena calls the same SM8975 the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Android Headlines has used both and on 16 September 2026 shrugged that it is "Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, aka Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, whichever name Qualcomm goes for". Qualcomm has confirmed only that two Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips are coming. Its Snapdragon Summit runs from 22 to 24 September 2026, which should settle the name within days of this page going up - so treat any name you read before then, including on this page, as a leak.
Which leaves Exynos as the real open question for UK buyers. South Korea's MT reported on 1 September 2026 that Samsung is considering the Exynos 2700 for the S27 Ultra in selected countries including South Korea, which would be its first Exynos Ultra since the Galaxy S22 generation, while describing the Snapdragon variant as near complete. Separately, Chosun Biz reported on 13 September that Samsung's own foundry may produce part of the Snapdragon run, with its 2nm yields put at around 55% against TSMC's 60% to 70%. A UK S27 Ultra is most likely Snapdragon, but "most likely" is the strongest phrasing the evidence supports.
Memory, where the reports do not quite agree. Android Headlines reported on 16 September 2026 that component pricing has cooled Samsung on LPDDR6, with Micron reportedly quoting up to 50% more than Samsung's in-house memory division, and called LPDDR6 unlikely even on the Pro and Ultra. GSMArena, reporting Korea's The Bell the same day, framed it slightly more favourably - the S27 and S27+ drop to Micron LPDDR5X while the Pro and Ultra may still keep LPDDR6. Either way the Ultra is the model with a chance of it, and neither outlet treats it as settled. Android Headlines also expects Samsung to skip UFS 5.0 storage this generation.
What is not expected to move. The 6.9in screen size, the hole-punch cutout, and the S Pen - OnLeaks told Android Headlines the silo is staying, and it is visible at the bottom-left of the renders.
Galaxy S27 Ultra vs Galaxy S26 Ultra
The left column is reported and unconfirmed. The right column is a phone you can buy today, and its figures are taken from GSMArena's specification sheet and Samsung's UK launch pricing. Read the two as rumour against fact, not as a like-for-like spec comparison.

Galaxy S27 Ultra vs Galaxy S27 Pro
The S27 Pro is a new model with no predecessor, and on current reporting it is close enough to the Ultra that it is worth knowing what separates them before you decide which to wait for.
Three things do, according to OnLeaks' renders and ETNews. Size: the Pro is roughly 154.06 x 73.77 x 7.95mm with about a 6.6in screen, against the Ultra's 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97mm and 6.9in. Android Headlines calls the Pro essentially a smaller Ultra and reckons it should be far easier to handle one-handed. Zoom: both are reported to share the 200MP main and 50MP ultrawide, but the Ultra keeps the 50MP 5x telephoto while the Pro drops to a 12MP 3x. And the stylus: the Ultra's renders show an S Pen silo, the Pro's do not. Everything else currently reported - the camera plateau, the Snapdragon chip, 60W charging, Privacy Display - is expected to be shared.
If you want the whole four-model picture, including the standard S27 and the S27+, our Galaxy S27 series hub carries the full comparison table and the model numbers found in the GSMA database.
Should you wait for the S27 Ultra or buy an S26 Ultra now?
Buy the S26 Ultra, unless you specifically want the new camera housing or the bigger battery - and even then, read the next two paragraphs first.
The timing is the easy part. The S27 Ultra is at least four months away and quite possibly closer to six, and every component signal - Qualcomm's price letter, Samsung Foundry's increase, the memory market - points at it costing more than the S26 Ultra did, not less. Meanwhile the S26 Ultra is a known quantity with seven years of Samsung software updates ahead of it, which is the same commitment its successor will carry. That removes the usual argument for holding out.
The pricing is more interesting, and it is where an Ultra behaves differently from the rest of the range. SIM-free at the mainstream retailers, the S26 Ultra has not dropped at all: Carphone Warehouse, Mobiles.co.uk, Fonehouse and Metrofone all still want the full £1,279 for the 256GB model. Where it has moved is everywhere else. We currently track 10,903 Galaxy S26 Ultra deals, with the cheapest SIM-free listing at £875 and the cheapest contract with nothing to pay upfront at £49.20 a month over 36 months. Be careful with that cheapest figure: the sub-£1,000 listings come from graded and refurbished sellers rather than high-street stock, so check the stated condition before you click through.
Wait only if the new camera housing, the roughly 700mAh of extra battery, the M16 panel or a 2nm chip genuinely change the phone for you. Be clear-eyed about the rest: on the current reporting you would be giving up the 3x telephoto, charging at the same 60W, keeping the same 5x periscope sensor, and getting a main camera Android Headlines expects to perform much like the one already in the S26 Ultra. The reported gains at the front - a 16MP autofocus selfie and retuned processing - rest on single tipsters. And if you do want an S27 Ultra, the reliable play is the one that works every year: let it launch, then buy the outgoing S26 Ultra in the two to three weeks afterwards, when it finally falls.
What we still do not know
- The date. Nothing has leaked. Mid-January to late February 2027 is a range derived from Samsung's own recent behaviour, and Samsung has already moved this launch window once.
- Any UK price. Not one figure. The pounds on this page are our arithmetic applied to the S26 Ultra's £1,279, resting on American rumours that are themselves unconfirmed.
- Whether the 3x telephoto really goes. Ice Universe and ETNews both point that way, but nobody quotes Samsung, and when Ice Universe spoke again in September he addressed the 5x and left the 3x alone. GSMArena's "likely going away" is the right level of confidence.
- What the chip will be called. Everyone agrees on the model number SM8975 and nobody agrees on the name. Qualcomm's summit on 22 September 2026 should settle it.
- Which chip a UK unit gets. Snapdragon is the likelier answer, but the Exynos 2700 report is recent, comes from a Korean outlet with a reasonable record, and names markets rather than ruling any out.
- The typical battery rating. The 5,534mAh rated figure is certified. Whether Samsung markets it as 5,700mAh or 5,800mAh is currently guesswork.
- Storage and RAM tiers, and whether the Ultra gets LPDDR6. No tiers have leaked, and the two reports on LPDDR6 disagree about how likely it is.
- Weight, colours and the actual peak brightness figure. No numbers at all. The finishes in the CAD renders are presentation colours chosen by the leaker, and Android Headlines says so.
- Whether UK networks will all stock it alongside the new S27 Pro. A four-model range is new territory, and there is no guarantee every network carries every model at launch.
We will revise this page as the reporting firms up, and it becomes a full UK deal comparison the moment merchant feeds start carrying S27 Ultra stock.
