About the Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G
The Galaxy S21+ 5G is the sensible middle child of Samsung's 2021 flagship range, and that makes it one of the better value refurbished buys in the line-up today. It takes the standard S21's camera system and internals and wraps them in a bigger 6.7-inch screen with a noticeably larger 4,800mAh battery, which is where most of the benefit lies. It also gets a proper glass back rather than the polycarbonate panel Samsung used on the smaller S21, so it feels considerably more premium in the hand for not much more money. The compromise Samsung made across the whole S21 family was dropping display resolution to 1080p, meaning the S21+ is less sharp than the S20+ it replaced, though at normal viewing distance the 120Hz smoothness matters more than the pixel count. The microSD slot is gone too. UK units run the Exynos 2100, which is capable but runs warmer than the Snapdragon version sold in the US. With its update window now closed, buy this for the screen, battery and build rather than as a long-term phone.

As a refurbished purchase it makes sense if you want a large 120Hz screen and a glass-backed flagship body without paying current flagship prices. Be aware that Samsung's four Android upgrades and five years of security patches expired in early 2026, so it no longer receives updates. It is a strong phone for media and battery life, but not a long-term investment.
How long will the Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G receive updates?
Samsung promised four major Android upgrades and five years of security patches from the January 2021 launch, moving it from Android 11 up to Android 15. Both of those windows have now ended, so there are no further Android versions or security patches coming. Anyone who needs current security support should look at a newer model.
Does the Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G have expandable storage?
No. Samsung removed the microSD card slot from the entire S21 range, so you are limited to the 128GB or 256GB you buy at the outset. The 256GB version is the safer choice if you store a lot of video or offline music.
Does the Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G support wireless charging?
Yes, it supports 15W wireless charging alongside 25W wired charging over USB-C. It also supports reverse wireless charging, so you can top up earbuds or a smartwatch by resting them on the back of the phone. Note that Samsung did not include a charging plug in the box.
Is the Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G waterproof?
It carries an IP68 rating, which covers immersion in fresh water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. That is enough for rain, spills and accidental drops in a sink, but it is not designed for swimming or saltwater. On a used handset the seals may have degraded, so treat the rating as a safety margin rather than a guarantee.
Should I get the Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G or the standard Galaxy S21 5G?
The two share the same processor, cameras and 120Hz refresh rate, so photo and performance results are effectively identical. The S21+ adds a bigger 6.7-inch screen, a 4,800mAh battery instead of 4,000mAh, and a glass back in place of the standard S21's polycarbonate. Pick the smaller S21 if you want a 169g phone that is easy to use one-handed, or the Plus if screen size and battery life matter more.
