About the Samsung Galaxy M53

The Galaxy M53 sits at the top of Samsung's value-focused M range, and its job is to hand you the two things people notice most about a phone - the screen and the battery - without pushing you up into the A-series or S-series. The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus panel at 120Hz is the standout, because at this level rivals usually fall back on LCD, and the difference in contrast and outdoor legibility is immediately obvious. A 5,000mAh battery paired with a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 900 chip gives comfortable all-day endurance, and the 108MP main camera pulls in plenty of detail in good light through pixel binning. It is not a flagship in disguise, though. The supporting cameras are the usual low-resolution ultrawide, macro and depth trio, the plastic body is unremarkable, and 25W charging is the same speed Samsung has been shipping for years. There is no headphone jack either. What you are really buying is a big, genuinely good AMOLED screen and dependable battery life for people who watch a lot on their phone.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy M53 worth buying?
The Samsung Galaxy M53 is worth buying if screen quality and battery life matter more to you than camera versatility. The 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED Plus display is well above what most phones at this level offer, and the 5,000mAh battery lasts a full day comfortably. The ultrawide, macro and depth cameras are basic, so it is not the choice for photography.
Does the Samsung Galaxy M53 have a headphone jack?
No. Samsung dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Galaxy M53, so you will need USB-C earphones, an adapter or Bluetooth headphones. Its cheaper siblings the Galaxy M33 and M23 both kept the jack.
Is the Samsung Galaxy M53 camera good?
The 108MP main camera is genuinely capable in daylight, using pixel binning to produce detailed, bright shots. The 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro and depth sensors are much weaker, so quality drops off sharply once you move away from the main lens. Video records at up to 4K 30fps, and the 32MP front camera also shoots 4K.
Does the Samsung Galaxy M53 support 5G and expandable storage?
Yes to both. The MediaTek Dimensity 900 is a 5G chipset, so it works on all UK 5G networks, and there is a microSDXC card slot for extra storage, though it shares a tray with the second SIM. Internal storage comes in 128GB or 256GB with 6GB or 8GB of RAM.
How long does the Samsung Galaxy M53 battery last?
The 5,000mAh battery reliably covers a full day of mixed use, helped by the efficient 6nm Dimensity 900 chip. Charging is 25W wired, which is respectable rather than fast, and there is no wireless charging.
What is the difference between the Samsung Galaxy M53 and the Galaxy M33?
The M53 upgrades to a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen where the M33 uses a 6.6-inch TFT LCD, and jumps from a 50MP to a 108MP main camera and from an 8MP to a 32MP selfie camera. The M33 keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack and uses a dedicated microSD slot rather than sharing the SIM tray.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
