About the Samsung Galaxy A50
The Samsung Galaxy A50 was the phone that made the modern Galaxy A range matter. Launched in early 2019, it put a proper 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen, an in-display fingerprint reader and a 4,000mAh battery into a mid-range package at a time when rivals were still shipping LCD panels at that level. That screen is the reason to consider one today: deep blacks, punchy colour and a small teardrop notch that dates it far less than the thick bezels of its contemporaries. Battery life was the other strength, with the Exynos 9610 being modest enough that the 4,000mAh cell comfortably cleared a day. The trade-offs are clearer now than they were then. The optical fingerprint sensor under the glass is slow and fussy compared with the ultrasonic readers on Samsung's flagships, the 25MP main camera is fine in daylight and mushy after dark, and video tops out at 1080p. Samsung's support ended with Android 11 and One UI 3.1, so there are no further security patches. It is a used-market buy for someone who wants a big AMOLED screen and a dependable battery cheaply.

Only as an inexpensive secondhand phone for light use. The Super AMOLED display and 4,000mAh battery still do the basics well, but the Exynos 9610 struggles with heavier apps and software support has ended. A current entry-level Galaxy A model will be slower to feel outdated.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A50 support 5G?
No. The Galaxy A50 is a 4G LTE phone only, as 5G had not reached the mid-range when it launched. If you want 5G on a Samsung mid-ranger you need to look at the later A-series models such as the A51 5G or newer.
How long does the Samsung Galaxy A50 battery last?
The 4,000mAh battery was good for a full day of mixed use when new, helped by the efficient Exynos 9610 chip and a 1080p screen. On a phone this old expect noticeably less, since lithium cells lose capacity over years of charging. It supports 15W fast charging over USB-C.
How long will the Samsung Galaxy A50 receive updates?
It will not get any more. The A50 shipped on Android 9 Pie and was upgraded as far as Android 11 with One UI 3.1, after which Samsung ended security patch support. The phone still runs, but new vulnerabilities are no longer being fixed.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A50 camera any good?
It is respectable in daylight. The 25MP main sensor produces sharp, colourful shots, the 8MP ultrawide is handy for landscapes and the 5MP depth sensor helps with portrait blur. Low-light photos are soft and noisy, and video is limited to 1080p with no 4K option.
