About the Oppo Reno16

The Reno16 is Oppo's compact mid-ranger for 2026, and its size is the main reason to choose it. At 6.32 inches it is noticeably smaller than most phones at this level, and it shares its body with the Reno16 Pro, including the aluminium frame and IP68/IP69K protection against dust, submersion and high-pressure water jets. The camera is where it earns its place. The 50MP 3.5x telephoto has optical stabilisation and reviewers rate it for portraits and distant detail, the new 50MP ultrawide replaces the Reno15's 8MP unit, and GSMArena rated the selfies from the 50MP ultrawide front camera excellent. Every camera records 4K at 60fps. The UK model gets a 6,000mAh battery rather than the 6,700mAh cell sold outside Europe, but Expert Reviews still measured more than 37 hours of video playback. The compromises are speed and charging: the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 trails rivals such as the Xiaomi 17T in benchmarks and demanding games, there is no wireless charging, and no charger comes in the UK box. Buy it for the small size, the cameras and the stamina, not for raw performance.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Oppo Reno16 worth buying?
Yes, if you want a compact phone with a strong set of cameras. It pairs a 6.32-inch body with a 50MP 3.5x telephoto, a 50MP ultrawide and long battery life, and Expert Reviews found its display colour-accurate. It is not the fastest phone in its class: the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 trails rivals such as the Xiaomi 17T, and there is no wireless charging.
Should I buy the Oppo Reno16 or the Oppo Reno16 F?
Both have a 50MP main camera and a 50MP 3.5x telephoto with optical stabilisation, a 50MP ultrawide selfie camera and IP68/IP69K protection. The Reno16 is the smaller phone at 6.32 inches, with the more powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, a 50MP rear ultrawide instead of 8MP, 4K 60fps video, an aluminium frame and 80W charging. The Reno16 F has a bigger 6.57-inch screen, a larger 6,500mAh battery on UK models against 6,000mAh, a microSD slot and slower 45W charging. Compare Oppo Reno16 F deals.
How long does the Oppo Reno16 battery last?
The UK model has a 6,000mAh battery (the 6,700mAh version is sold outside Europe), and it lasts well: Expert Reviews recorded 37 hours 12 minutes in its video playback test, and TechRadar found it good for a full day of mixed use. It supports 80W SUPERVOOC wired charging, which Oppo says fills it in about an hour. There is no charger in the UK box and no wireless charging.
Is the Oppo Reno16 camera good?
Yes, it is the phone's main strength. The 50MP main camera gives detailed, natural-looking shots with wide dynamic range, reviewers singled out the 50MP 3.5x telephoto for portraits and clear detail at 7x, and the new 50MP ultrawide improves on the Reno15's 8MP unit. GSMArena rated the 50MP ultrawide selfie camera excellent. The weak spot is close-ups, because the telephoto cannot focus closer than about 40cm.
Is the Oppo Reno16 waterproof?
It is rated IP68 and IP69K, so it is dust-tight, can be submerged in 1.5m of water for 30 minutes and withstands high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. Oppo also lists IP66 and IP69 certification. Oppo advises against charging the phone while it is still wet.
How long will the Oppo Reno16 get software updates?
Oppo promises five years of major Android updates and six years of security patches for the Reno16, which launched on Android 16 with ColorOS 16. That is solid for the class, though Expert Reviews points out that the Honor 600 and Pixel 10a are promised more OS updates.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
