About the OnePlus Nord

The original OnePlus Nord was the phone that reset expectations for what a mid-range handset should feel like. Instead of cutting corners on the parts you touch, OnePlus kept a 90Hz Fluid AMOLED panel, fast Warp Charge 30T and the clean, quick version of OxygenOS that made the brand's reputation, then saved money on the things buyers notice less. The Snapdragon 765G is not a flagship chip but it handles everyday Android smoothly and brought 5G to the range for the first time. The camera setup is a mixed bag: the 48MP main sensor is capable in good light and the 8MP ultrawide is usable, while the 5MP depth and 2MP macro lenses are filler. The dual selfie camera, with a 32MP main and an 8MP ultrawide, was a genuinely useful touch for group shots. Compromises include no headphone jack, no wireless charging and no official water resistance rating. Six years on, its Android update window has closed, so this is a phone to consider for light use rather than long-term security.

Frequently asked questions

Is the OnePlus Nord worth buying?
It is worth considering only as a light-use or backup phone now. The 90Hz AMOLED screen, 5G and 30W charging still feel decent, but OnePlus promised two years of Android upgrades and three years of security patches from its 2020 launch, so that window has closed. For a phone you rely on daily, a newer Nord makes far more sense.
Does the OnePlus Nord support 5G?
Yes. The Snapdragon 765G includes an integrated sub-6GHz 5G modem, which covers every UK 5G network. There is no mmWave support, but no UK operator uses mmWave for consumer phones anyway.
How good is the OnePlus Nord camera?
The 48MP main camera with optical stabilisation takes solid daylight photos and the 8MP ultrawide is fine for landscapes. The 5MP depth and 2MP macro sensors add little, and low-light performance falls well short of what a modern mid-ranger manages.
How does the OnePlus Nord compare to the OnePlus Nord 2 5G?
The Nord 2 5G is the direct successor and upgrades almost every core component: a MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI chip, a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera with optical stabilisation, a larger 4,500mAh battery and much faster 65W Warp Charge. Both keep a 90Hz AMOLED display of roughly the same size.
Does the OnePlus Nord have a headphone jack?
No. The Nord dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack, so you will need USB-C headphones, an adapter or a wireless pair. There is also no microSD slot, so pick your storage capacity carefully.
How fast does the OnePlus Nord charge?
The 4,115mAh battery supports Warp Charge 30T, which OnePlus rated at roughly 70 percent in 30 minutes using the bundled charger. There is no wireless charging on this model.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
