About the OnePlus 8T

The OnePlus 8T was the mid-cycle refresh that fixed the two things people complained about most on the OnePlus 8. The curved screen was replaced with a flat 6.55-inch panel that finally ran at 120Hz, and charging jumped to 65W, which takes the 4,500mAh battery from empty to full in under 40 minutes. That combination still defines the phone: it is one of the fastest-charging handsets you can pick up second-hand, to the point where topping up while you shower becomes normal. The Snapdragon 865 remains quick enough for anything most people do, and OxygenOS at this vintage was clean, fluid and light on clutter. The camera is the weak link. The 48MP main sensor is dependable in daylight but falls behind rivals after dark, and the 5MP macro and 2MP monochrome sensors are filler. There is no microSD slot, no wireless charging and no official water resistance rating, and with software support ending at Android 14 it is now a value pick rather than a current flagship.

Frequently asked questions

Is the OnePlus 8T worth buying?
As a second-hand or refurbished buy it still holds up well. The flat 120Hz AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 865 and 65W charging remain genuinely good, and OxygenOS is fast. The camera is only average after dark, there is no wireless charging or IP rating, and software support has ended, so treat it as a value option rather than a long-term investment.
How fast does the OnePlus 8T charge?
Very fast. Warp Charge 65 fills the 4,500mAh battery from flat to 100 percent in about 39 minutes using the supplied charger and cable. There is no wireless charging, so you have to plug it in.
Does the OnePlus 8T have a headphone jack or microSD slot?
No to both. The OnePlus 8T has no 3.5mm headphone jack and no microSD expansion, so you are limited to the 128GB or 256GB of built-in storage. You will need USB-C or Bluetooth headphones.
Is the OnePlus 8T waterproof?
The standard OnePlus 8T carries no official IP rating, so it is not certified for water or dust resistance. It will survive light rain in practice, but there is no guarantee and no warranty cover for water damage.
Does the OnePlus 8T still get software updates?
No. It launched on Android 11 with OxygenOS 11 and was updated as far as Android 14 and OxygenOS 14, which is where its support ended. It receives no further Android versions or security patches.
Should I buy the OnePlus 8T or the OnePlus 8 Pro?
The OnePlus 8 Pro is the more complete flagship: a sharper 1440p 6.78-inch display, a proper 3x telephoto camera, a 48MP ultrawide, IP68 water resistance and 30W wireless charging. The 8T counters with a flat screen many people prefer, much faster 65W wired charging and a lighter 188g body. Pick the 8 Pro for the camera and durability, the 8T for charging speed and handling.
