About the Nokia G20

The Nokia G20 is the G10 with the two upgrades that actually change how you use the phone: a 48MP main camera in place of a 13MP one, and NFC for contactless payments. Both matter more day to day than the modest step from the Helio G25 to the Helio G35, which leaves the phone in the same slow-but-adequate territory as its cheaper sibling. What carries it is the same 5,050mAh battery and the same clean, unmodified Android build, a combination that still feels calmer to live with than most budget rivals stuffed with preinstalled apps. The 6.52-inch HD+ display is large and easy to read rather than sharp, and the quad camera arrangement is really a 48MP main plus a usable 5MP ultrawide, with the macro and depth sensors adding little. HMD delivered the promised two Android upgrades and three years of security patches, and that support has now ended. Five years on it remains a sensible cheap phone for light users who want a big battery, contactless payments and no software clutter.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Nokia G20 worth buying?
It is a reasonable pick for light users on a tight budget. The 5,050mAh battery, 48MP camera, NFC for contactless payments and clean Android build cover the basics well, but the Helio G35 chip is slow and the phone no longer receives security updates. Heavy users and mobile gamers should look elsewhere.
How long does the Nokia G20 battery last?
The 5,050mAh battery typically delivers two days of light use or a comfortable full day of heavier use. Charging is 10W, so a full charge takes a few hours and overnight charging is the practical approach.
Is the Nokia G20 camera good?
For the money it is respectable. The 48MP main sensor produces sharp, well-exposed daylight shots and the 5MP ultrawide is genuinely useful for group photos and landscapes, but low-light results are noisy and video is capped at 1080p at 30fps. The 2MP macro and depth sensors add little.
Does the Nokia G20 have NFC for contactless payments?
Yes. Unlike the cheaper Nokia G10, the G20 includes NFC, so Google Wallet and contactless payments work normally. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor in the power button.
Does the Nokia G20 support 5G?
No. The Nokia G20 is a 4G-only handset and works on every UK network, but there is no 5G. That is typical of Nokia's G-series at this level.
How does the Nokia G20 compare to the Nokia G10?
They share the same 6.52-inch HD+ screen, 5,050mAh battery and body, so the differences are in the details that matter. The G20 upgrades the main camera from 13MP to 48MP, adds a 5MP ultrawide, adds NFC for contactless payments, steps up to the Helio G35 chip and starts at 64GB rather than 32GB of storage. Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
