About the Motorola Moto G86

The Moto G86 is built around one very deliberate strength: its screen. The 6.67-inch pOLED panel runs at 120Hz, resolves a sharper-than-usual 2712x1220, and is rated to 4,500 nits peak for HDR content, which makes it a genuinely enjoyable phone to watch things on and easy to read outdoors. Motorola has also given it protection that used to be reserved for flagships, with IP68 and IP69 ratings, MIL-STD-810H testing and Gorilla Glass 7i, so it should cope with rain, dust and the occasional drop. The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 is a sensible rather than thrilling performer, fine for social apps, streaming and casual games but not a phone you buy for heavy gaming. The 5,200mAh battery gets through a day without drama, though 30W charging is unremarkable and there is no charger in the box. Photography follows the familiar mid-range pattern: a dependable stabilised 50MP main camera and a much weaker 8MP ultrawide. Motorola's near-stock Android 15 software is clean, but the update commitment is shorter than several rivals offer.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Motorola Moto G86 worth buying?
Yes, if display quality and durability matter more to you than raw speed. Very little at this level offers a 120Hz pOLED screen this bright alongside IP68 and IP69 water and dust protection. The compromises are modest 30W charging, an average ultrawide camera and a shorter software support window than some rivals.
Is the Motorola Moto G86 waterproof?
It holds both IP68 and IP69 ratings, meaning it is sealed against dust, can survive immersion in fresh water, and also resists high-pressure and high-temperature water jets. That is unusually strong protection for a mid-range phone, and it is backed by MIL-STD-810H durability testing.
Does the Motorola Moto G86 have a headphone jack and microSD slot?
There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, so you will need USB-C or wireless headphones. It does keep a microSD card slot, which is handy for adding storage on top of the 256GB it ships with.
How good is the Motorola Moto G86 camera?
The 50MP f/1.88 main camera has optical stabilisation and produces sharp, consistent daylight shots for the money. The 8MP ultrawide is noticeably softer and struggles in low light, and there is no telephoto lens, so zoom relies on cropping the main sensor. The 32MP front camera is strong for video calls and selfies.
How long does the Motorola Moto G86 battery last?
The 5,200mAh battery reliably covers a full day of mixed use, with lighter users getting into a second day. Charging is 30W wired, which is mid-pack, and there is no wireless charging.
How long will the Motorola Moto G86 receive updates?
It launched on Android 15 with security patches committed through June 2029. That is respectable for the price, though several competitors now promise longer major-version support.
Should I get the Moto G86 or the Moto G86 Power?
The two share the same 6.67-inch pOLED display, Dimensity 7300 chip and camera hardware, so the everyday experience is near-identical. The Power adds a much larger 6,720mAh battery and 512GB of storage, at the cost of being thicker at 8.65mm and 13g heavier. Choose the Power if endurance is your priority, or the standard G86 if you prefer a slimmer phone with a microSD slot.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
