About the Motorola Moto E20

The Moto E20 launched in late 2021 as Motorola's cheapest UK phone of that year, and several years on it is very much a phone you buy on price alone. The Unisoc T606 chip and 2GB of RAM were modest at launch and feel slow now, with apps reloading whenever you switch between them and the camera taking its time to save a shot. The 6.5-inch 720p screen runs at 60Hz, so it looks and feels plainer than the 90Hz panels on newer Moto E models. Its 4,000mAh battery is smaller than the 5,000mAh cells Motorola later standardised on, though the low-resolution display and Android 11 Go software still get most people through a day. Software support ended long ago, which is the biggest reason to be cautious: it will not receive further security patches. If you need a spare handset, a phone for a child, or something to keep in a car or drawer for emergencies, it still functions perfectly well. As a main phone in 2026, newer budget models make far more sense.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Moto E20 worth buying?
The Moto E20 is only worth buying as a spare or backup handset now. It launched in 2021 with entry-level hardware, its 4,000mAh battery is smaller than newer Moto E models offer, and it no longer receives Android security updates. For a main phone, a newer Moto E or Moto G is a much safer choice.
Does the Moto E20 support 5G?
No, the Moto E20 is a 4G-only phone. It connects to 4G LTE across all UK networks, which handles streaming and video calls fine, but there is no 5G support at all.
How long does the Moto E20 battery last?
The Moto E20's 4,000mAh battery is smaller than the 5,000mAh cells Motorola uses on newer Moto E phones, but the 720p 60Hz screen and lightweight Android 11 Go software are undemanding, so light users get a full day. Charging is limited to 10W, so a full recharge takes a couple of hours. Bear in mind that on a phone this old the battery will have degraded from new.
Is the Moto E20 camera any good?
The Moto E20 has a 13MP main camera with a 2MP macro sensor alongside it, plus a 5MP selfie camera. Daylight shots are acceptable for messaging, but the macro lens adds little and low-light photos are poor. Video recording is capped at 1080p at 30fps.
Does the Moto E20 still get software updates?
No. The Moto E20 shipped with Android 11 (Go edition) and its update window closed years ago, so it no longer receives Android version upgrades or security patches. That is the main practical argument against using it as your everyday phone with banking and payment apps installed.
How does the Moto E20 compare to the Moto E30?
The Moto E30 launched a month later and improves on the Moto E20 in most ways: a 90Hz screen instead of 60Hz, a 5,000mAh battery instead of 4,000mAh, a faster Unisoc T700 chip and a 48MP main camera. The E20 is lighter and slimmer, but the E30 is the better all-rounder.
