About the Apple iPhone 18 Pro
The iPhone 18 Pro is Apple's 6.3-inch flagship for 2026, announced on 9 September and on sale in the UK from 18 September 2026 at £1,199 for 256GB. It is the first year Apple has launched only its Pro phones in September: the foldable iPhone Duo follows on 23 October, and the standard iPhone 18 is not expected until spring 2027. The change that matters is the camera. The 48MP main lens has a mechanical variable aperture with four stops from f/1.48 to f/4.0, so it can genuinely gather more light or hold a whole scene in focus rather than simulating either in software, and Apple exposes it through Pro controls for aperture and shutter speed. Underneath is the A20 Pro, Apple's first 2-nanometre chip, whose gains show up as battery life: Apple rates the Pro at up to 34 hours of video playback, with a 50% charge in around 15 minutes from a 60W adapter. The Dynamic Island is smaller, Face ID stays, the aluminium unibody is unchanged at 8.75mm, and storage now runs to 2TB. Colours are black, silver, glacier and burgundy.

Is the Apple iPhone 18 Pro worth buying?
For a £100 rise on last year's price it brings a genuinely new camera mechanism, a longer battery rating and a 2nm chip, which is more than most iPhone generations offer. If you are on an iPhone 15 Pro or older, it is a clear upgrade. If you have an iPhone 17 Pro, the variable aperture is the only change you will notice day to day, and the money is better spent waiting a year.
When is the Apple iPhone 18 Pro coming out?
It goes on sale in the UK on Friday 18 September 2026. Apple announced it on 9 September and UK pre-orders opened at 1pm on Saturday 12 September at Apple, the networks and the main retailers.
How much does the Apple iPhone 18 Pro cost in the UK?
£1,199 for 256GB, £1,399 for 512GB, £1,799 for 1TB and £2,399 for 2TB from Apple UK. That is £100 more than the iPhone 17 Pro's launch price. On contract, the first pre-order deals started at around £48 a month with nothing upfront on a 36-month plan.
What camera does the Apple iPhone 18 Pro have?
A 48MP main camera with a variable aperture (f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4.0), a 48MP telephoto with 4x optical zoom at 100mm and an 8x optical-quality crop, and a 48MP ultrawide. The front camera is an 18MP Center Stage unit. Video goes up to 4K Dolby Vision at 120fps with ProRes RAW and Apple Log 2.
Does the Apple iPhone 18 Pro have under-display Face ID?
No. The Dynamic Island is smaller than on the iPhone 17 Pro and can show three Live Activities, but Face ID still works through the TrueDepth camera in the front module. Apple has not said when, or whether, it will move the hardware under the screen.
How does the Apple iPhone 18 Pro compare to the iPhone 17 Pro?
Same 6.3-inch display, same aluminium unibody at 8.75mm and the same three-camera layout. What changes is the A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process, the variable aperture on the main camera, a longer battery rating, Apple's own C2 modem, a smaller Dynamic Island and a new 2TB tier. Is there a standard Apple iPhone 18?
Not yet. Apple announced only the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Duo in September 2026. The standard iPhone 18 is widely reported for spring 2027, alongside an iPhone 18e and a second iPhone Air, but Apple has not confirmed any of that.
How long will the Apple iPhone 18 Pro get software updates?
Apple does not publish an update policy, but recent iPhones have received major iOS releases for at least five years and security patches beyond that. The iPhone 18 Pro ships with iOS 27.
