  • All plans are carbon neutral with a tree planted for every customer each year
  • Flexible 30-day rolling contracts with no minimum term and no mid-contract price hikes
  • Coop members get a welcome reward, a free first month, 10% off extra SIMs and 10% off travel eSIMs
  • eSIM support, Wi-Fi Calling, and 5G included on all plans

Cons

  • Handset choice is built around ethical brands rather than mainstream flagships, so there are no Apple or Samsung contracts

  • Phone support is weekdays and Saturday mornings only, with no evening cover
  • EU roaming data is tiered by bundle, so the entry 3GB plan gets well under a gigabyte abroad

Your Co-op Overview

MobileCoop is a mobile virtual network operator run by OurCoop, the society formed in January 2026 by bringing together Central Co-op, the Midcounties Co-operative and Chelmsford Star, and registered as Central England Co-operative Limited. The service traded as The Phone Co-op and then MobileCoop before rebranding to MobileCoop on 24 July 2026, and runs on EE's network infrastructure, giving customers access to the UK's largest 4G and 5G network.

What sets MobileCoop apart from other EE MVNOs is its ethical positioning. All SIM bundles are certified carbon neutral, with funds directed to carbon reduction projects and a tree planted for every customer every year. The service also exclusively stocks Fairphone handsets, the modular, repairable smartphones designed to minimise electronic waste, rather than offering the usual lineup of Apple and Samsung devices.

MobileCoop focuses primarily on SIM-only plans on flexible 30-day rolling contracts, with no minimum term and no annual price increases. Co-op members who link their membership number receive a monthly 10% discount voucher redeemable on a Co-op grocery shop, adding a practical incentive beyond the mobile service itself.

Coverage & Speed

MobileCoop provides coverage through EE's network, offering 4G to over 99% of the UK population. As an EE MVNO, customers benefit from the same geographic coverage as EE direct customers, though maximum speeds may differ. EE's network consistently ranks as the UK's widest-reaching for both 4G and 5G, making coverage a genuine strength of this service.

Plans & Pricing

MobileCoop offers SIM-only plans exclusively on 30-day rolling contracts. Data allowances range from 3GB to unlimited, with every plan including unlimited UK calls and texts, 5G access, Wi-Fi Calling, and free EU roaming. No credit check is required for SIM-only plans.

Roaming

Your Co-op Mobile includes free EU roaming across 49 European destinations on all SIM plans. Customers can use their UK minutes and texts as normal, along with a roaming data allowance that is tiered by bundle rather than fixed: roughly 512MB on the 1GB plan, 768MB on 3GB, 2.5GB on 10GB, 7.5GB on 30GB and 25GB on both the 100GB and unlimited plans. Outside of Europe, roaming charges apply at standard rates.

Our Verdict

MobileCoop occupies a unique niche in the UK mobile market as an ethically-focused MVNO backed by the strength of EE's network. The carbon neutral certification, tree planting commitment, and exclusive Fairphone partnership give it genuine differentiation in a market where most MVNOs compete purely on price.

The main drawback is value for money. At eleven pounds for 3GB and thirty-nine pounds for unlimited data, MobileCoop is significantly more expensive than competing EE MVNOs and even some direct EE plans. Customers are effectively paying a premium for the ethical positioning and Co-op member benefits. Whether that premium is worthwhile depends on how much you value the environmental commitments and the monthly grocery discount.

The limited customer service hours and small handset range are also worth considering. If you need weekend support or want a choice of phones beyond Fairphone, other providers will serve you better. However, for Co-op members who prioritise ethical consumption and want reliable EE coverage without a long-term commitment, MobileCoop delivers on its promise of being mobile with a difference.
