Switch from Three to SMARTY

Keep your phone number when you switch from Three to SMARTY. Here's how in 3 simple steps.

Updated July 2026

Switching from Three to SMARTY is a natural move for anyone happy with Three's coverage but looking for a cheaper deal. SMARTY runs on the Three network, so your signal and coverage won't change at all — you'll connect to exactly the same masts. SMARTY keeps things simple with rolling monthly plans, no credit checks, and a straightforward pricing structure. The whole switch takes one working day and you'll keep your existing number.

Important Warning

Do NOT cancel your contract manually. If you cancel before transferring your number, you will lose it permanently. Your old contract will automatically cancel once the transfer completes.

Pre-Switch Checklist

  • Back up your data: Contacts, voicemails, and saved messages won't transfer.
  • Unlock your phone: Ensure it's not locked to your old network if you plan to keep using it.
  • Check Early Termination Fees: Text INFO to 85075 to see if you'll incur charges for leaving early.

How to Switch from Three to SMARTY

1

Get your PAC code from Three

Text PAC to 65075 from your Three phone and your PAC code will arrive by text within a minute. If you'd rather speak to someone, call 333 from your Three handset or 0333 338 1001 from any other phone. You can also request your PAC through the My3 app or by logging into three.co.uk. Three might try to offer you a retention deal — feel free to hear them out or just take your PAC and move on. It's valid for 30 days.

2

Give your PAC to SMARTY

Order a SMARTY SIM at smarty.co.uk. During the signup process, you'll be asked if you want to keep your current number. Select yes and enter your PAC code. SMARTY doesn't have a phone helpline — everything is done online. If you miss the PAC entry during checkout, you can add it afterwards through your SMARTY dashboard once your account is set up.

3

Wait 1 working day

SMARTY will schedule the number transfer for the next working day. You'll get a text letting you know when it's happening. On the switch day, your Three SIM will deactivate and your SMARTY SIM will pick up your number. It's a fairly seamless experience since both SIMs connect to the same network infrastructure. Your Three contract ends automatically when the number ports over.

Transfer Cut-off Times: Submitting your PAC code before 5:30 PM usually means your number will transfer the next working day. Submitting it after 5:30 PM or on weekends/bank holidays will add an extra working day to the process.

Final Bill: You'll receive a final bill from Three shortly after the transfer is complete. This covers your usage up to the date of the switch.

Things to Check Before Switching

Check your Three account for any remaining device plan payments — these become due immediately when you leave. Early termination fees may also apply if you're still within a minimum term contract. Since SMARTY uses the same Three network, your unlocked phone will definitely work. Three phones from after December 2021 should already be unlocked, but if yours isn't, request an unlock through the My3 app or by calling 333 before you switch.

Same Network Coverage

SMARTY uses the Three network — the exact same network you're on now. Your coverage, signal strength, and data speeds will be identical after switching. If Three works well for you today, SMARTY will work just as well.

Three to SMARTY FAQ

Is SMARTY really the same coverage as Three?
Yes, identical. SMARTY is owned by Three and uses the same network infrastructure, masts, and frequencies. Anywhere you get Three signal, you'll get SMARTY signal, and vice versa.
Does SMARTY do credit checks?
No. SMARTY plans are SIM-only and paid monthly, so there's no credit check required. You sign up, pay for the month, and can cancel anytime without penalties.
What happens if I don't use all my data on SMARTY?
SMARTY offers a discount on some plans if you don't use all your data — they call it a data discount. Not all plans include this feature, so check the details of the specific plan you're considering.
Can I keep my Three phone and use it on SMARTY?
Absolutely. Since SMARTY runs on Three's network, your phone is fully compatible. Just make sure it's unlocked, swap the SIM, and you're good to go.
