Switch from SMARTY to Three

Keep your phone number when you switch from SMARTY to Three. Here's how in 3 simple steps.

Updated July 2026

Switching from SMARTY to Three keeps you on the same network while unlocking access to Three's full product range, including phone contracts with new handsets, home broadband bundles, and perks like free roaming in dozens of countries. Since SMARTY runs on Three's network, your coverage remains identical. People typically make this switch when they want a subsidised phone deal or access to Three's extras that aren't available on SMARTY's stripped-back plans.

Important Warning

Do NOT cancel your contract manually. If you cancel before transferring your number, you will lose it permanently. Your old contract will automatically cancel once the transfer completes.

Pre-Switch Checklist

  • Back up your data: Contacts, voicemails, and saved messages won't transfer.
  • Unlock your phone: Ensure it's not locked to your old network if you plan to keep using it.
  • Check Early Termination Fees: Text INFO to 85075 to see if you'll incur charges for leaving early.

How to Switch from SMARTY to Three

1

Get your PAC code from SMARTY

Text PAC to 65075 from your SMARTY phone and the PAC code will be sent back by text within a minute. SMARTY doesn't have a phone helpline, so the text method is the most direct route. You can also request your PAC through your SMARTY online account dashboard at smarty.co.uk. Since SMARTY plans run month-to-month, there are no early exit penalties — you're free to leave whenever you like. The PAC stays valid for 30 days.

2

Give your PAC to Three

Head to three.co.uk or visit a Three store to choose your plan. During the checkout or sign-up process, choose to keep your current number and enter your PAC code. If you're in-store, the staff will handle this for you. You can also call Three on 0333 338 1001 from any phone to set up your account and provide the PAC. Three offers both SIM-only and phone contract options, so pick what suits your needs.

3

Wait 1 working day

Three will process the port on the next working day after receiving your PAC. You'll be sent a text confirming the scheduled date. On the day of the switch, your SMARTY SIM deactivates and your Three SIM takes over your number. Because both run on the same network, the transfer tends to be quick and seamless with very little disruption. Your SMARTY account closes automatically once the number has moved.

Transfer Cut-off Times: Submitting your PAC code before 5:30 PM usually means your number will transfer the next working day. Submitting it after 5:30 PM or on weekends/bank holidays will add an extra working day to the process.

Final Bill: You'll receive a final bill from SMARTY shortly after the transfer is complete. This covers your usage up to the date of the switch.

Things to Check Before Switching

SMARTY plans are rolling monthly with no termination fees, so leaving is straightforward. Your current month is already paid for, but service ends as soon as the number ports. Make sure to use up any data balance before the switch day. Your phone will work perfectly on Three since the underlying network is identical. If you're bringing your own device, just confirm it's unlocked. If you're getting a new phone through Three on a contract, compatibility is guaranteed.

Same Network Coverage

Three and SMARTY share the same network infrastructure, so your coverage will be identical after switching. Signal strength, data speeds, and indoor coverage stay exactly as they are now. There are no coverage surprises with this particular switch.

SMARTY to Three FAQ

Why switch from SMARTY to Three if the network is the same?
The main reasons are getting a phone on contract with monthly payments, accessing Three's Go Roam feature for free international roaming, or wanting Three's broader plan options and in-store support that SMARTY doesn't provide.
Will I get better speeds on Three compared to SMARTY?
Generally no, since both use the same network and masts. However, Three occasionally prioritises its own direct customers during peak congestion periods, though this difference is rarely noticeable in practice.
Is there a cancellation fee for leaving SMARTY?
No. SMARTY only offers rolling 30-day plans with no minimum commitment. You can leave at any point without paying any penalty or exit fee.
Can I visit a Three store for help with the switch?
Yes. Unlike SMARTY which is online-only, Three has high street stores across the UK where staff can help you set up your new plan, transfer your number, and even help you choose a new phone.
