About the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro

The Redmi Note 9 Pro was Xiaomi's 2020 answer to the question of how much phone you really need, and the answer involved a very large battery. The 5,020mAh cell is the reason people still speak fondly of it: with the modest Snapdragon 720G doing the work, two days between charges was normal rather than exceptional, and 30W wired charging meant refilling it never became a chore. The 6.67-inch LCD is bright and sharp but it is an LCD, so blacks look grey next to the AMOLED screens Xiaomi moved to in later Notes. The 64MP main camera takes respectable daylight shots and the ultrawide is usable, though the macro and depth sensors are there to pad the spec sheet more than anything else. Six years on, the real caveats are software and speed: Android updates stopped after Android 12 and MIUI 14, so it no longer receives security patches, and modern apps make the chipset feel its age. It remains a sensible pick as a spare, a first phone for a child, or a durable second handset, but not as a main phone you plan to keep for years.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro worth buying?
In 2026 the Redmi Note 9 Pro only makes sense as a cheap secondary or backup handset. Its 5,020mAh battery and 6.67-inch screen still handle calls, messaging and video perfectly well, but it stopped receiving Android security updates after Android 12 and MIUI 14. If it will be your main phone, a newer Redmi Note is the safer choice.
Does the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro have a headphone jack?
Yes. The Redmi Note 9 Pro keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top edge, alongside an infrared blaster for controlling TVs and set-top boxes. It also has a microSD slot, so you can add storage without replacing the phone.
How good is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro camera?
The 64MP main sensor is decent in daylight and produces detailed, slightly over-sharpened shots, and the 8MP ultrawide is handy for landscapes. Low-light photography is where it struggles, and the 5MP macro and 2MP depth sensors add little in practice. Video tops out at 4K 30fps with no optical stabilisation.
How long does the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro battery last?
Battery life is this phone's strongest feature. The 5,020mAh cell paired with the power-efficient Snapdragon 720G routinely delivered close to two days of moderate use when new, and 30W wired charging refills it quickly. On a six-year-old handset expect noticeably less, since lithium batteries degrade with age.
Will the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro still get software updates?
No. The Redmi Note 9 Pro reached the end of its update cycle at Android 12 with MIUI 14 and no longer receives Android version upgrades or security patches. That is the main reason to treat it as a spare rather than a primary phone in 2026.
What is the difference between the Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Redmi Note 9?
The Note 9 Pro is the faster and better-equipped of the pair: a Snapdragon 720G instead of a MediaTek Helio G85, a larger 6.67-inch screen, a 64MP main camera rather than 48MP, and 30W charging versus 18W. Both share the same 5,020mAh battery, so the standard Note 9 is still worth a look if you only care about endurance.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
