About the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro

The Poco F2 Pro was Xiaomi's attempt to repeat the trick that made the original Pocophone famous: take a genuine flagship processor and wrap it in a body that cuts costs everywhere else. It worked. The Snapdragon 865 inside is the same chip that powered 2020's most expensive Android phones, and it still handles everyday apps and older games without complaint. A motorised 20MP pop-up selfie camera keeps the 6.67-inch AMOLED completely uninterrupted, which looks striking even now, though the moving mechanism is the part most likely to fail on a well-used unit. The compromises are clear once you look past the chip. The display runs at a standard 60Hz rather than the high refresh rates rivals moved to, the phone is heavy at 219g, and the 5MP macro and 2MP depth lenses do little beyond padding the spec sheet. Software is the bigger limitation today: it launched on Android 10 with MIUI 11 and its update window has long since ended, so treat it as a light-use handset.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro worth buying?
It is worth a look only if you want flagship-class processing power for light use and can accept an unsupported phone. The Snapdragon 865 remains capable, but the 60Hz screen feels dated, the 219g weight is noticeable, and MIUI updates and security patches for this model have ended.
Does the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro have a notch?
No. The Poco F2 Pro uses a motorised pop-up selfie camera, so the 6.67-inch AMOLED display has no notch or hole-punch cutout at all. The 20MP front camera rises out of the top edge when you switch to selfie mode.
How good is the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro camera?
The 64MP main sensor takes detailed daylight shots and the 13MP ultrawide is reasonable, but the 5MP macro and 2MP depth lenses add little. It also records 8K video, which is unusual at this level, though the results are more of a novelty than a genuinely useful feature.
Does the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro have a high refresh rate screen?
No. The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel runs at a standard 60Hz. This was the phone's most criticised omission, since rivals at the time were moving to 90Hz and 120Hz. Its successor, the Poco F3, moved to a 120Hz AMOLED.
Does the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro still get software updates?
No. It launched on Android 10 with MIUI 11 and its guaranteed update window has closed, so it no longer receives new Android versions or security patches. That is the main reason to think twice about using it as your primary phone.
Does the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro support 5G?
Yes. The Snapdragon 865 pairs with an X55 modem for sub-6GHz 5G, which covers all UK 5G networks. It also includes NFC for contactless payments.
