About the Xiaomi 15 Ultra

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is a camera-first flagship, and everything about it follows from that. The rear array is built around a 1-inch 50MP main sensor with Leica optics, but the more interesting parts are the two zoom lenses: a 50MP 70mm floating telephoto that doubles as a superb close-up camera, and a 200MP 100mm periscope that keeps detail at longer range where most rivals fall apart. Add a 50MP ultrawide and you have four genuinely usable focal lengths rather than one good lens and three makeweights. The rest is flagship spec as standard - Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 6.73-inch WQHD+ LTPO panel that hits 3,200 nits, IP68 protection and a 5,410mAh battery with 90W wired and 80W wireless charging. What you pay for it, beyond money, is bulk: at 226g and 9.35mm it is one of the heaviest phones on sale, and the camera housing dominates the back. Xiaomi's HyperOS still ships with more preinstalled apps than most people want, though four Android upgrades and six years of security patches give it a long life.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Xiaomi 15 Ultra worth buying?
Yes, if photography is your main reason for choosing a phone. The 1-inch main sensor and the pairing of a 70mm floating telephoto with a 200MP periscope give it a range of high-quality focal lengths almost nothing else matches. If you want something light and pocketable, its 226g weight makes it hard to recommend.
How good is the Xiaomi 15 Ultra camera?
It is one of the strongest camera systems on any phone. The 50MP 1-inch LYT-900 main sensor captures a lot of light, the 200MP 100mm periscope holds detail at long range, and the 70mm floating telephoto focuses close enough to work as a macro lens. It also records 8K video and shoots 16-bit UltraRAW files for editing.
How fast does the Xiaomi 15 Ultra charge?
The 5,410mAh battery supports 90W wired HyperCharge and 80W wireless HyperCharge, so even wireless top-ups are quicker than most phones manage over a cable. Note that no power adapter is included in the box, so you need a compatible Xiaomi charger to hit those speeds.
Is the Xiaomi 15 Ultra waterproof?
It is rated IP68, meaning it is dust tight and tested for immersion in fresh water to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. That covers rain, spills and an accidental drop in the sink, but it is not designed for swimming or beach use.
How long will the Xiaomi 15 Ultra get software updates?
Xiaomi commits to four Android version upgrades and six years of security updates on its flagships, so a phone launched in early 2025 is supported into 2031. It shipped on HyperOS 2 based on Android 15.
Should I get the Xiaomi 15 Ultra or the Xiaomi 15?
They share the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, so performance is effectively identical. The Ultra exists for its cameras - a 1-inch main sensor, a 200MP periscope and a second telephoto - plus a bigger 6.73-inch WQHD+ screen and faster 80W wireless charging. The standard Xiaomi 15 is far easier to live with at 192g and 6.36 inches.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
