About the TCL 30+

The TCL 30+ is a 2022 budget phone that put an unusually good screen into a cheap body, and four years on that screen is still its main appeal. The 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel runs at 60Hz, but Tech Advisor found it clear, colourful and easy to read in bright sunshine, and the phone is slim at 7.7mm and 184g. Twin speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD expansion make it a practical package, and the 5,010mAh battery managed 9 hours 40 minutes in Tech Advisor's PCMark test. The problem is the MediaTek Helio G37 chip paired with 4GB of RAM. Tech Advisor reported constant stutters, slow-loading apps and a sluggish camera, and concluded it was hard to recommend even when new. The 50MP main camera is fine in daylight but hit and miss in low light, and video has no stabilisation. Software is the bigger concern today: it launched on Android 12, TCL promised one Android update and two years of security patches, and Tech Advisor listed security support ending in December 2023. It only makes sense as a cheap spare for light use.

Frequently asked questions

Is the TCL 30+ worth buying?
Only as a very cheap spare phone. The AMOLED screen, slim body, headphone jack and battery life are good, but Tech Advisor found the Helio G37 chip made it stutter constantly, and its security support was listed as ending in December 2023. A current budget TCL such as the TCL 605, which launched on Android 15 in 2025, is a better everyday choice.
Does the TCL 30+ still get software updates?
No. It launched in 2022 on Android 12 with TCL UI 4.0, and at launch TCL promised the TCL 30 series one Android update and two years of security patches. Tech Advisor's review listed security updates ending in December 2023, so avoid using it for banking or anything sensitive.
Does the TCL 30+ have 5G?
No. The TCL 30+ is a 4G phone, which is fine for calls, messaging and browsing on UK networks. TCL sold a separate TCL 30 5G with a Dimensity 700 chip for buyers who wanted 5G.
Is the TCL 30+ camera good?
It is decent in daylight. The 50MP main camera took very usable shots in bright conditions in Tech Advisor's testing, but low-light photos were hit and miss, the 2MP macro and depth cameras add little, and 1080p video has no stabilisation. The 13MP front camera has an ultra wide-angle lens, which helps with group selfies.
Does the TCL 30+ have a headphone jack and expandable storage?
Yes to both. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack next to the USB-C port, and a microSD slot that takes cards up to 1TB on top of the 128GB of built-in storage. That built-in storage is the slower eMMC type.
Should I buy the TCL 30+ or the TCL 605?
The TCL 605 is the more sensible buy today: it launched on Android 15 and has a faster Helio G81 chip, a bigger 5,200mAh battery, IP54 splash resistance and up to 8GB of RAM. The TCL 30+ keeps the nicer screen, a sharper Full HD+ AMOLED panel against the 605's HD+ LCD, and adds macro and depth cameras. Compare TCL 605 deals.
