About the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G
The Galaxy A73 5G was Samsung's most ambitious mid-range phone of 2022, and it still holds up better than most phones of its age because Samsung spent the money in the right places. The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus panel runs at 120Hz and gets bright enough to stay readable outdoors, which is the single thing that makes an older handset feel current. IP67 water resistance and Gorilla Glass 5 are unusual at this level and mean it has survived four years of ordinary British weather without much drama. The Snapdragon 778G is no longer quick by 2026 standards, but it handles messaging, streaming and light gaming without stuttering, and the 5,000mAh battery comfortably clears a day. The 108MP main camera is the headline, though it is more about detail in good light than low-light skill, and Samsung dropped the telephoto lens the A72 had. Four years on, the main caveats are the ageing chip, 25W charging that now looks slow, and an update runway that is close to running out. As a used or clearance buy it remains sensible; as a full-price purchase it has been overtaken.

Samsung Galaxy A73 5G Specifications
Spec Scores
£200-£399 Phones · 197 phones
- Snapdragon 778G 5G
- Octa-core (1x2.4 GHz Cortex-A78 & 3x2.2 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4x1.9 GHz Cortex-A55)
Based on calibrated CPU benchmark rankings (60%) and GFXBench GPU scores (40%). Apple chipsets included via editorial calibration since AnTuTu under-represents Apple's architecture.
- 6.7 inches
- 1080 x 2400 pixels
- AMOLED, 120Hz, 800 nits peak
Based on panel type (LTPO is the modern flagship gold standard), resolution, refresh rate, peak brightness, screen size, and HDR10+ / Dolby Vision support. Marketing peak-brightness claims are capped at 3500 nits to prevent inflation.
- Quad camera setup
- 108 MP main camera
- Optical image stabilisation (OIS)
- 4K video recording
Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.
- 32 MP front camera
- 4K selfie video
Based on selfie megapixels and max selfie-video resolution.
- 5,000 mAh
- 25W wired
Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
