About the Samsung Galaxy A57

The Samsung Galaxy A57 is the top of Samsung's mainstream A-series, and this year the changes are almost entirely physical. At 6.9mm thick and 179g it is noticeably slimmer and around 19g lighter than the Galaxy A56, the bezels are tighter, and water resistance moves up to IP68 so a full dunk is no longer a worry. The new Exynos 1680 is about 16 percent quicker in multi-core work than last year's chip, which shows up as smoother app switching rather than anything dramatic, and battery life has improved meaningfully on an unchanged 5,000mAh cell. Where the A57 stands still is photography: the 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide and 5MP macro arrangement is now in its fourth consecutive generation, and video is still capped at 4K30. The main lens is dependable in daylight, the ultrawide less so, and the macro camera adds little. Six years of Android upgrades and security patches make it a sensible long-term hold, and the AMOLED screen remains one of the best in its class.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A57 worth buying?
The Samsung Galaxy A57 is worth buying if you want a slim, well-built mid-ranger with a first-rate AMOLED screen and six years of software support. The IP68 rating, 179g weight and improved battery life are real gains over the Galaxy A56. The camera hardware has not changed in four generations, so keen photographers should compare it against rivals before committing.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A57 support wireless charging?
No. The Samsung Galaxy A57 has no wireless charging, which is a notable omission when some rivals at this level now include it. It does support 45W wired charging and reaches roughly 50 percent in about 22 minutes with a suitable adapter.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A57 waterproof?
The Samsung Galaxy A57 carries an IP68 rating, an upgrade on the IP67 of the Galaxy A56. That means it is dust-tight and can survive immersion in fresh water up to 1.5m deep for 30 minutes. Gorilla Glass Victus+ protects both the front and the back.
How long will the Samsung Galaxy A57 receive updates?
Samsung promises six years of Android version upgrades and six years of security patches for the Galaxy A57. It ships with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, so support runs well into the 2030s, which is among the longest commitments at this level.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A57 camera good?
It is adequate rather than a highlight. The 50MP main sensor produces clean, well-exposed daylight shots, but the 12MP ultrawide lacks fine detail, digital zoom is weak, and the 5MP macro camera contributes little. Video tops out at 4K30, and the hardware is unchanged from the past three generations.
Should I get the Samsung Galaxy A57 or the Galaxy A37?
Both have a 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED screen, a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging, IP68 and the same six-year update promise, so the day-to-day experience is close. The A57 uses the newer Exynos 1680, is far lighter at 179g against 196g, and offers a better 12MP ultrawide plus larger storage tiers. The A37 covers the basics for less demanding users.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
