About the Samsung Galaxy A52

The Galaxy A52 was the phone that set the template Samsung's mid-range has followed ever since, and it is easy to see why it sold so well in the UK. Rather than chasing headline specs, Samsung concentrated on the things people notice daily: a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate that still looks better than plenty of newer LCD phones, stereo speakers, and an IP67 rating that was genuinely unusual at this price in 2021. The 64MP main camera with optical stabilisation is the other standout, producing steadier low-light shots and smoother video than mid-rangers of the era typically managed. Performance from the Snapdragon 720G is the compromise - fine for messaging, streaming and light games, sluggish if you push it hard. The practical touches matter too: a headphone jack, microSD expansion up to 1TB and an in-display fingerprint reader. This is the 4G model, so if 5G on your network is a priority, the A52 5G is the version to look at. Its Android update window has now closed.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A52 worth buying?
The Galaxy A52 is still a sensible budget buy thanks to its 90Hz Super AMOLED screen, IP67 water resistance and stabilised 64MP camera - features many cheap phones lack even now. Its weak points are the modest Snapdragon 720G performance and the fact that its four years of Android updates, which took it to Android 14, have now run out.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A52 support 5G?
No, the standard Galaxy A52 is a 4G LTE handset. Samsung sold a separate Galaxy A52 5G with a Snapdragon 750G chip and a faster 120Hz screen, which is the one to choose if 5G coverage matters to you.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A52 waterproof?
The Galaxy A52 carries an IP67 rating, meaning it is dust tight and can survive being submerged in fresh water for up to 30 minutes. That covers rain, spills and drops in the sink, though it is not intended for swimming or seawater.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A52 have a headphone jack?
Yes. The Galaxy A52 keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack alongside USB-C, and it also has a microSD slot supporting cards up to 1TB on top of the built-in storage. Both features have since disappeared from most of Samsung's range.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A52 camera good?
For a mid-range phone of its generation, yes. The 64MP main camera includes optical image stabilisation, which keeps night shots and handheld video noticeably steadier than rivals without it, and the 12MP ultrawide is genuinely usable. The 5MP macro and 5MP depth sensors add little.
How long will the Samsung Galaxy A52 receive updates?
It will not receive any more. Samsung supported the A52 through to Android 14, and that update window has now ended, so no further Android versions or long-term security patches are coming. That is the main argument for choosing a newer Galaxy A model as a primary phone.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
