About the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G

The Galaxy A06 5G is Samsung's cheapest way onto a 5G network, and it makes sense once you understand what it is and is not trying to do. Compared with the 4G A06 it replaces, the two changes that matter day to day are 5G connectivity and a 90Hz screen, which makes scrolling and swiping noticeably less sluggish than the 60Hz panel on the older model. Everything else is deliberately basic: the display is a 6.7-inch LCD at HD+ resolution rather than an AMOLED, and the 50MP main camera does fine in daylight but has no optical stabilisation to lean on once the light drops. What genuinely sets it apart at this end of the market is longevity. Samsung commits to four generations of Android upgrades and four years of security patches, which is more than most budget rivals offer and means the phone should still be receiving updates well after a typical contract ends. Add an IP54 rating, a microSD slot and a headphone jack, and it is a sensible, unglamorous first smartphone or spare handset.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G worth buying?
It is worth buying if your priority is a cheap, dependable 5G phone that will keep getting updates for years. Four generations of Android upgrades and four years of security patches are unusually generous at this price level. It is not a good choice if you care about camera quality in low light or want a sharp AMOLED screen, since it uses an HD+ LCD panel.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G have a headphone jack and microSD slot?
Yes to both. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the hybrid SIM tray takes a microSD card of up to 1.5TB alongside a nano-SIM. That makes it easy to expand the storage if you choose one of the smaller configurations.
How long will the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G get software updates?
Samsung has committed to up to four generations of Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates from launch. It shipped with Android 15 and One UI 7, so it is set to stay supported well beyond the length of a standard two-year contract.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G camera any good?
It is adequate rather than good. The 50MP f/1.8 main sensor produces usable, reasonably detailed shots in daylight, but there is no optical image stabilisation, so indoor and night photos are often soft or blurry. The 2MP macro lens is a token extra and the 8MP front camera is basic.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G waterproof?
It is not waterproof, but it carries an IP54 rating, which covers dust ingress and splashes of water from any direction. That means rain and spills should be fine, but you should not submerge it or take it swimming.
What is the difference between the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G and the Galaxy A06?
The A06 5G adds 5G connectivity, moves from a MediaTek Helio G85 to a Dimensity 6300 chip, raises the screen refresh rate from 60Hz to 90Hz and adds an IP54 rating that the 4G model lacks. It is also slimmer at 8.0mm versus 8.8mm, and it doubles the promised OS upgrades from two generations to four. The cameras and 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging are the same across both.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
