About the Samsung Galaxy A04

The Samsung Galaxy A04 is the entry point to Samsung's phone range and it makes its priorities obvious: a big screen, a big battery and very little else. The 6.5-inch HD+ panel is only 60Hz and never looks especially crisp, but it is large enough that video and video calls are comfortable, which matters more to the audience this phone is aimed at than pixel density does. The 5,000mAh battery is where it earns its keep, regularly running past a full day and into a second for light users, and 15W charging at least means an overnight top-up is not the only option. The 50MP main camera is the headline number, though the small sensor behind it means results are decent in daylight and mediocre once the light drops. Notable omissions include a fingerprint reader and 5G, so unlocking is by face or PIN and data is 4G-only. Buying one in 2026 means accepting that its update window, four years of security patches from a late-2022 launch, is very nearly closed.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A04 worth buying?
The Samsung Galaxy A04 is worth buying only as a basic, low-cost handset where battery life and a large screen matter more than performance or photography. It handles messaging, calls, streaming and social apps fine, but the 720p 60Hz screen, 4G-only connectivity and lack of a fingerprint sensor are real limitations. Its security support window from the 2022 launch is close to running out, so treat it as a short-term phone.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A04 have 5G?
No, the Samsung Galaxy A04 is 4G LTE only and does not support 5G on any UK network. That is fine for browsing, messaging and streaming, but you will not get 5G speeds even on a 5G tariff. Samsung's later entry-level models such as the Galaxy A06 5G are the cheapest way into 5G in this part of the range.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A04 have a fingerprint scanner?
No, the Galaxy A04 has no fingerprint sensor, either in the display or in the power button. You unlock it with a PIN, pattern, password or face recognition, and face unlock on a budget phone like this is less secure and less reliable in low light than a fingerprint reader would be.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A04 camera good?
The Galaxy A04's 50MP main camera produces acceptable daylight shots with reasonable detail, backed by a 2MP support lens and a 5MP front camera. It is not good in low light, there is no ultrawide or telephoto lens, and video tops out well below what mid-range phones manage. Treat it as a camera for snapshots rather than anything more ambitious.
How long does the Samsung Galaxy A04 battery last?
The Samsung Galaxy A04 comfortably lasts a full day and often longer, because its 5,000mAh battery only has to drive a 720p 60Hz display and a modest processor. It supports 15W wired charging, which is slow by current standards but a clear step up from the older Galaxy A03's 10W.
What is the difference between the Samsung Galaxy A04 and the Galaxy A04e?
The Galaxy A04 and Galaxy A04e share the same 6.5-inch HD+ 60Hz screen and 5,000mAh battery, but the A04 has a 50MP main camera against the A04e's 13MP sensor and supports 15W fast charging, which the A04e lacks completely. Unless the saving is meaningful to you, the A04 is the more sensible of the two.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
