About the Samsung Galaxy A03s

The Galaxy A03s sits right at the bottom of Samsung's range, and it is honest about what it is: a simple, durable Android phone for people who mostly text, call, browse and use a couple of apps. Its strongest card is battery life. The 5,000mAh cell paired with a modest 720p screen and a low-power Helio P35 chip means two days between charges is realistic for light users, which is more than most flagships manage. Samsung also kept the practical bits that budget buyers actually miss: a headphone jack, a dedicated microSD slot, NFC for contactless payments and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The trade-offs are real and worth knowing. The screen is only HD+ so text looks soft next to sharper rivals, the 13MP camera struggles indoors and after dark, and the chip shows its limits as soon as you open several apps at once. Launched on Android 11 in 2021, its Samsung update window has now closed, so it is best treated as a spare, a first phone or a straightforward handset for a lighter user.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A03s worth buying?
The Galaxy A03s is only worth buying today as a cheap backup phone, a first phone for a child or a simple handset for someone who just needs calls, messages and a few apps. Battery life and build are fine for that, but the HD+ screen, slow chip and lapsed software support rule it out as a main device. A more recent Galaxy A-series model is a better long-term buy.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A03s have 5G?
No. The Galaxy A03s is 4G LTE only and will connect to UK 4G networks rather than 5G. Samsung's cheapest 5G handsets sit in the Galaxy A0x 5G and A1x 5G lines if you need it.
How long does the Samsung Galaxy A03s battery last?
Very well for the class. The 5,000mAh battery combined with a low-resolution 720p screen and an efficient Helio P35 chip often gives two days of light use. Charging is slow, though, with support topping out at 15W.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A03s camera good?
It is basic. The 13MP main camera takes acceptable photos in good daylight but loses detail quickly indoors and at night, and there is no optical stabilisation or night mode worth relying on. The 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors add very little in practice.
Does the Samsung Galaxy A03s have NFC and a headphone jack?
Yes to both. It supports NFC for contactless payments through Google Wallet and keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also a dedicated microSD slot, so you can expand the 32GB or 64GB of storage without sacrificing a SIM.
How does the Samsung Galaxy A03s compare to the Galaxy A03?
The A03s uses a MediaTek Helio P35 chip, a USB-C port and a side-mounted fingerprint reader, while the plain A03 runs a Unisoc T606 chip with an older microUSB port and no fingerprint sensor. The A03 counters with a higher-resolution 48MP main camera. Both share the same 6.5-inch HD+ screen and 5,000mAh battery.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
