About the Oppo Reno12

The Reno12 is Oppo's 2024 mid-ranger, sold in the UK as a single 12GB/256GB model. It is slim and light at 7.6mm and 177g, with a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen that curves at the sides, and GSMArena found it almost identical to the Reno12 Pro apart from the cameras. Its strength is stamina: the efficient Dimensity 7300-Energy chip helped it to an Active Use Score of 14 hours 53 minutes in GSMArena's battery test, a result the site called excellent, and 80W charging took it from flat to full in 46 minutes, although no charger comes in the box. The 50MP main camera has optical stabilisation, but the other rear cameras are an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro, so there is no optical zoom, and GSMArena found the Pro's selfies considerably sharper than the Reno12's 32MP ones. It is rated IP65, which covers rain and splashes but not submersion, and it keeps a microSD slot and an IR blaster. If you are buying one now, the main drawback is support: Oppo UK lists security updates only until June 2028, against February 2031 for the Reno13.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Oppo Reno12 worth buying?
It can be, if you mainly want long battery life in a slim, light phone. GSMArena rated its battery endurance excellent, it charges fully in about 46 minutes with an 80W charger, and it has a 120Hz AMOLED screen, a microSD slot and an IR blaster. The catches are the lack of optical zoom, an IP65 rating rather than full waterproofing, and Oppo UK security updates that end in June 2028, well before those for the newer Reno13 and Reno16.
Should I buy the Oppo Reno12 or the Oppo Reno12 Pro?
GSMArena found the two almost identical: they share the 6.7-inch 120Hz screen, the Dimensity 7300-Energy chip, the 5,000mAh battery, 80W charging and the IP65 rating, and they returned near-identical results in its battery test. The Reno12 Pro adds a 50MP 2x telephoto, a 50MP selfie camera that took considerably sharper selfies than the Reno12's 32MP unit, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and, in Europe, 512GB of storage rather than 256GB. If selfies and zoomed portraits do not matter to you, the Reno12 gives practically the same experience. Compare Oppo Reno12 Pro deals.
How does the Oppo Reno12 compare to the Oppo Reno13?
The Reno13 is the stronger phone. It has the faster Dimensity 8350 chip, a sharper 6.59-inch 1256 x 2760 screen, a larger 5,600mAh battery, a 50MP autofocus selfie camera that records 4K at 60fps, and IP68/IP69 protection against submersion and high-pressure water jets. Oppo UK also lists security updates for the Reno13 until February 2031, against June 2028 for the Reno12. The Reno12 keeps a microSD slot, which the Reno13 lacks. Compare Oppo Reno13 deals.
How long does the Oppo Reno12 battery last?
It lasts well. GSMArena gave the 5,000mAh Reno12 an Active Use Score of 14 hours 53 minutes, which it rated excellent and put down to the power-efficient Dimensity 7300-Energy chip. With Oppo's 80W SUPERVOOC charger it went from flat to full in 46 minutes, but the charger is not in the box, and GSMArena found a 100W USB Power Delivery charger nearly as quick. Oppo says the battery keeps more than 80% of its capacity after four years of daily charging in its lab tests.
Is the Oppo Reno12 camera good?
The 50MP main camera with optical stabilisation is the one to rely on, and GSMArena saw no difference between its photos and the Reno12 Pro's, in daylight or after dusk. The rest of the setup is basic: an 8MP ultrawide, a 2MP macro and no telephoto, so 2x shots are cropped from the main camera. GSMArena found the Reno12 Pro's selfies considerably sharper than the Reno12's 32MP ones, although the front camera does have autofocus and records 4K video.
How long will the Oppo Reno12 get software updates?
Oppo UK lists security updates for the Reno12 until 27 June 2028. It launched on Android 14 with ColorOS 14.1, and GSMArena lists three major Android updates for it. If you plan to keep a phone for four years or more, the Reno13 (supported until February 2031) or the Reno16 (until July 2032) will last longer.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
