About the OnePlus Nord 5

The Nord 5 is the most performance-focused phone OnePlus has put in the Nord line, and the reason is the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 - a chip from Qualcomm's flagship family rather than the mid-tier parts this range usually gets. In practice that means games run at settings a typical mid-ranger cannot hold, and the 144Hz screen has the horsepower to make use of the extra frames. The other headline is the selfie camera: a 50MP sensor with autofocus that shoots 4K 60fps, which is a genuine upgrade for anyone who films themselves rather than just taking the occasional selfie. Elsewhere it plays the sensible Nord game. The 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED is big and bright, 80W charging refills quickly, and OxygenOS remains one of the cleaner Android skins, with four Android upgrades and six years of security patches promised. The compromises are a modest 8MP ultrawide, no telephoto lens, UFS 3.1 storage rather than the faster UFS 4.0 used in the Nord 4, and a 211g body that feels every bit as big as it is.

Frequently asked questions

Is the OnePlus Nord 5 worth buying?
Yes, particularly if gaming or video calling matter to you. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 gives it performance well above the usual mid-range level, and the 50MP autofocus selfie camera with 4K 60fps recording is unusually capable. The weaker 8MP ultrawide and lack of a telephoto lens are the main reasons to look elsewhere.
How good is the OnePlus Nord 5 camera?
The 50MP Sony LYT-700 main camera with optical stabilisation is strong for the money and holds up well in low light. The 8MP ultrawide is much weaker and there is no dedicated zoom lens, so distant subjects rely on digital crops. The 50MP autofocus front camera is the standout of the set.
How long does the OnePlus Nord 5 battery last?
The UK model uses a 5,200mAh battery with 80W SUPERVOOC charging, which takes it from flat to full far faster than most rivals in this class. It also supports bypass charging, so the battery is spared while you game with the charger plugged in.
How long will the OnePlus Nord 5 get software updates?
OnePlus promises four Android version upgrades and six years of security updates from launch, and the phone shipped with OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15. That puts it among the better-supported mid-range Android phones.
Is the OnePlus Nord 5 waterproof?
It carries an IP65 rating, which means it is fully dust tight and protected against low-pressure water jets. Rain and splashes are fine, but it is not rated for submersion in the way IP68 flagships are.
Should I get the OnePlus Nord 5 or the OnePlus Nord 4?
The Nord 5 is the faster phone, with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a larger 6.83-inch 144Hz screen and a far better 50MP autofocus selfie camera. The Nord 4 answers with a slimmer 199.5g aluminium body, a bigger 5,500mAh battery, 100W charging and quicker UFS 4.0 storage. Pick the Nord 5 for performance and video calls, the Nord 4 for comfort and charging speed.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
