About the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus

The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus is a targeted tune-up of the Phone (2a) rather than a new design, and it works because the original was already one of the more interesting mid-range phones on sale. The transparent back with its Glyph light strips still makes it stand out on a shelf full of black rectangles, and Nothing OS remains refreshingly free of duplicate apps and adverts. The upgrades are narrow but sensible: a faster Dimensity 7350 Pro chip, a bump from 45W to 50W charging, and a 50MP selfie camera that replaces the 32MP unit and adds 4K video, which matters if you shoot a lot of front-facing content. The 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, dual 50MP rear cameras and 5000mAh battery carry over unchanged, and battery life remains a full day. The IP54 rating is the notable weak point, offering splash protection only, and there is no microSD slot or wireless charging. Three years of Android upgrades keep it viable for a while yet.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus worth buying?
Yes, if you want a mid-range phone with genuine personality and clean software. The Dimensity 7350 Pro handles everyday apps and most games comfortably, the 120Hz AMOLED screen is excellent for the money, and Nothing OS is uncluttered. The IP54-only water resistance and lack of wireless charging are the main compromises.
What is the difference between the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus and the Phone (2a)?
The Plus uses a faster MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro instead of the 7200 Pro, upgrades the selfie camera from 32MP to 50MP with 4K video, and charges at 50W rather than 45W. The screen, dual 50MP rear cameras and 5000mAh battery are the same, so it is a modest step up rather than a new phone.
Is the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus waterproof?
No. It carries an IP54 rating, which covers dust and splashes such as rain or a spilled drink, but not immersion. Keep it away from baths, pools and heavy downpours.
What does the Glyph Interface on the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus do?
The LED strips on the back light up in set patterns for calls, notifications and timers, so you can leave the phone face down and still read what is happening. They also work as a fill light for the rear cameras and can show progress for things like ride-hailing apps that support it.
How long will the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus receive updates?
Nothing committed to three major Android version upgrades from its Android 14 launch software, with security patches continuing beyond that. That is competitive for the mid-range, though Samsung and Google offer longer on comparable phones.
Is the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus camera good?
The dual 50MP setup, with an optically stabilised main camera and a 50MP ultrawide, is solid in daylight and decent at night for the class. The bigger story is the 50MP front camera, which records 4K video and is a clear improvement over the standard Phone (2a) for selfies and vlogging.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
